been getting a few primer carbied brigg's last few months over fueling . on inspection i found the main jet with brass or stainless insert to be missing or fallen out caught in the mesh screen .

is our fuel that bad now its eating out the plastic bigshock ??

seems to be getting more common too , only once i have found the insert still there , and new jets are PHEW . almost cheaper for a new carb .
any thoughts in this one ?

cheers . Dave

Curious which model are these as I haven't seen any here do this but they probably just not showed up in my shop yet.

I knew that our fuels here is the United States is laden with additives that are damaging fuel components (includes ethanol and ether). Also materials coming out China are not resistance like they should be especially the aftermarket parts. I recently install a fuel bowl gasket and had to remove bowl to make a float and gasket swelled so much that I had to install a new one just it to seal again as it wouldn't even fit. This especially frustrating when you got to wait 2 weeks for the replacement gasket to arrive on simple job.

thankyou Mr big . that was a little help strange though its just started happening here . and the jet is almost never to be found !!
earlier is always better than later even in such simple things as small engines huh . AVB check out that thread , it might show you the type of carb . same things have been here for YEEARS now . and it is a popular swap for older. alloy pulser prime type auto choke jobbies .

thanks for the pointer BigTed

Hmmm engines here get away that particular style carb but I do remember seeing that thread last year. They still a dang plastic carb that you got be carefully tightening the fuel bowl screws on

Dave,
Good Question - I like these type of threads.

Personally I haven't encountered this problem myself and I have fixed up a fair few of Briggs engines with this type of carb over the last few years.

Can you clarify how old the engine was when you found the problem? Are they 500 Series/ 450 Series Etc.

Thanks

Pete

mostly 450's but seems that all can be a problem if fitted with the jet insert , some have a solid jet with no steel you can see . some brass some steel or stainless but seems its the bought from a store not a mower shop , does built to a price ring any bells ?

most i found are on 450's from a well known hardware store , thinner bases also cracked on the high arch side . handles fatigued already too !!!
i wont name the name but its i think a green n red store , sells snags on weekends wink

cheers . Dave
