Hi, I'm here to introduce myself. I came across this group doing a Google search looking for Greenfield info. I thought it looked like a worthwhile place to be with plenty of advice from people in the know. I was mowing yesterday and the B&S Vanguard engine in my Greenfield Evolution 2000 expired. I am planning to replace it with a Briggs Intek and take the opportunity to freshen up the rest of the mower. To mow with in the mean time I have purchased a Greenfield Honda, so will search the forums for an appropriate place to ask questions about that one. Thanks Jace.

Plenty of vertical shaft motors on ebay to choose from. Briggs put a leg out?

G'day Jace,

I'm one of the greenfield tragics mentioned by Jack.

I couldn't help noticing that you referred to your 'standby' mower as a 'Greenfiield Honda'. That term was used by Greenfield for their first generation machines way back in the 60's and 70's. Is that what you've got? If so, perhaps photos while you have the camera out?

As I said, self confessed tragic.

Cheers,

Hi prd,
That is what I will be picking up later this week, then I can finish mowing my lawns that I started last weekend before my motor went boom... I will post a picture of it as I will be interested to hear exactly what it is from the guys in the know on here. I can't see myself selling it again once my E2000 is back up and running. Will probably end up doing a bit of a resto on it I reckon. I'm not certain what colour it's supposed to be she's multi colored at the moment, but it runs and cuts.

Morning Jace,

I'd looked at that one on Gumtree. Of course being in SA and I in QLD meant I couldn't pursue it.

It's a first generation Greenie. The main indication is the front 'axle' (not the right term but I can't think of the correct one) pivots above the axle. Ever after they nested it into a U channel and pivoted it thro' the centre. The other thing is it is a single drive belt from the engine to a dog clutch on the cutter housing. The next model had both the drive and cutter belts going to the engine.

People refer to them as an HD8. Technically I'm not sure this is correct as I havnt seen Geenfield use that term in their literature until the next model. Original colour is red.

Not too many in running order. I'd be keeping it for resto too smile

I have a couple of these and a HD8. I'll do a collection photo when I finally get them all home. I only have one here.

Good to have you on board.

That's great info prd, turned out its only about 20 minutes from my home. I was kind of hoping it was one of the first ones, think that makes it more desirable. Will look much better painted up red, will have to do some research as to the correct shade of red to use. The only thing actually wrong with it is it's a little difficult to start, pretty sure that won't be too difficult to sort out though. So really it should look like the one below.....

Yup, it should look like that one! Can I ask where you found that photo? It's not one I seen before and is the best example of one I've seen so far!

I'm intending to do some painting on the one I have here. I'll let you know what I come up with as a match.

Damn that one in the photo above is in good nick! - but not the original engine?

Hmmm... Will see if I can work out where I found that pic. One of my google searches the other night when I was doing some investigation into my new toy. Can't find it again doing a quick search. Will keep looking. Red does seem to suit these old girls. Since I can't really afford to restore an old Holden, I figure restoring an old Greeny might be the next best thing.

Hi guys, been busy and not been here. Maybe not the place to post this but does anyone know if the drive clutch is still available somewhere for my little Greenfield Honda? Been told by the big mower stores it's no longer available but thought somebody here may shed some more light on be subject?

G'day Jace,

Yep, you'd be better to start a new thread, in the Greenfield forum we now have HERE.

Firing this thread up again in relation to the early greenfield discussion for the photo of the red resto.
