I have a 2 stroke post hole digger but it has no name on it. It has a carby problem because it has spark and will fire with a squirt of starter fluid. I haven't pulled the carby off yet but was wondering if there was anything to look out for?

Have you changed the fuel pick up filter? Most times that is the problem rather than the carby itself.

Thanks Trev, I have cleaned the filter and it flows freely, but still no go, problem is I have no idea of the brand so I can't chase a new carby.

To me it looks to be a BBT post hole digger or something like that, most likely around the 62cc size engine. Though they come out in 52cc up to 88cc. Hope this helps.

I just fixed up this... For a mate. I'll see him tomorrow & ask what info he has or knows.. On this one It has a decomp button (I think) (See pic #2) above the pull start... It has to be pushed in to start once it starts it pops out & away she goes. Have a check of the primer bulb, when I took it off a small orange'ish rubber mushroom looking thingy fell out. I worked out that it had come out of its hole. This thing is like a one way flow valve, It has a almost invisible slit through the center of it so when the primer bulb is pushed it's forced through the slit & in to the carby. Check & make sure it's seated all the way. sits flush (no gap).. And put on a brake lever for the throttle & the kill button

Thanks Paul, looks very similar, gearbox looks the same. Mate has 2 of them one a 4 stroke, which the clutch was slipping, I swapped the motors over and that seemed to fix the problem on that one but I would like to sort this 2 stroke one out, spark is great, compression is good, just doesn't want to play ball

Ta, this one seems to have a slight wobble till it's seated. I tried a different plug type & it threaded in much better but too long... It has a NGK BRM7A.. I did notice the thread at the bottom (last 4 threads) were full of carbon/oil build up???

Hi Norm, cheap chinese no name engine on that. Don't bother with the carb, just put a new one on it, they're cheap enough. Check them out here: CARB

Thanks Bigted, how do they make these things that cheap, I couldn't post in in Aus for that sort of money. And Aus post claims it is making money now. Anyway back to the carby, what is it inside them that makes them work, there looks to be nothing in them, guess I will investigate, certainly nothing to loose

Was working recently freebird but he broke the throttle trigger, as you know with a fencer, just throw in the trailer, took it to a mower shop to get repaired but it hasn't worked since, I don't think he wants to go back there

Freebird, I have cleaned the filter, primer bulb is working, I'll pull the carb but I don't expect it will fix it. He said he had another carby and would bring it over, see what that does. I swapped the gearboxes over from the 2 stroke to the 4 stroke, I had got the 4 stroke starting well, carby on that was loose and by swapping the gearboxes, got the clutch to hold . Anyway he just dumped it in the trailer, I said to him 4 strokes don't like being tipped upside down, shrugged his shoulders, anyway an hour later he rang me and said that it wouldn't start, I just said "I'm not surprised"

All fixed, he had another carby, with a story as to why he had it I didn't bother trying to understand but now the 4 stroke is not revving properly so I guess the carby on that one needs replacing. Do you know if the 2 stroke and 4 stroke carbs are the same? Not sure if he uses a level, probably not
