G'day all, I have been looking at this site for a couple of months now and have been inspired to drag out my old victa and give it some love. One careful owner and obviously a few who didn't give a toss! I acquired it back in 1978 at a flea market for $10 and it still looks pretty much the same as the day I purchased it, just a bit more dust.
I bought it to use, which I did for 5 or 6 years. Upon first use it ejected the spark plug (stripped thread in head)so I wrapped some tape around the plug and back in business. It used to run for about 20 minutes before the tape would give up and throw the plug, unfortunately it took 40 minutes to mow the lawn! I persevered with this method for several months until one day the plug broke free of the lead and whistled passed my ear and I knew it was time to either find a new head or find a new head for me. This was as simple as going back to the old family home and visiting the next door neighbour who had a backyard mower repair business.
Can you help me with this Vic ? (yes his name was Victor) No worries he said as we walked down the back to the shed. Now the shed is a story all on its own so will just say my part wasn't worthy of a place in the shed but rather under it ! After pulling out a couple of old wooden crates stuffed with assorted engine parts he handed me the head and I reached for my wallet, don't be silly he said, it's no good to me as he pointed out the two chipped fins just below the plug hole. If only I had the foresight to grab some wheels which were as common as dog turds on the ground. Anyway that was the only repair I had made since owning this mower and it was still running when I retired it to garage all those years ago.
So now to the questions (can't ask Vic, he was in his 70s back in the 70s).
The points plate is horribly damaged (previous owners attempt to remove flywheel ?)and although still functioning would obviously like to replace it.
Was this plate used on any other models that could be more easily found ?
Does anyone out there have one they would give up at a reasonable price ?
Could one from another model be altered to fit ?
Does the printed 2 on the head indicate it's correct ?
Is there any significance to the 0 under the engine number ? (engine No 97747)
I do have more questions but need some advise on how to add pictures, such as where can I put pics to access for free ?
I will just try to add 2 files for now and hope that works.
Thanks in advance for any help I may receive
Cheers
Harry

It is a wico flywheel and ignition system (plate as well) there was certainly other mowers that used this same setup. However you will find that the Model 1 and Model 2 Victa Rotomo's are far more common. They would be much easier to obtain. In fact there was one on eBay not so long ago it may still be on there. I unfortunately don't have any that I could spare I only have enough for what I need.

Arh no not really as they used a 2 bolt on system and the models that came after that used 3 bolts, also the size of the hole where the crank comes out the top is different size and they do fit quite snug on it.

It could well be a head of something else as I've never herd of numbers stamped on these model heads.

No there is no real significance in any number stamped on the crankcase, other the the engine number.Nobody has ever found out what the number means.Maybe we will never know.
However your engine number does confirm that it is in fact a model 2 Rotomo.

OK you have to make sure your file size is to big.I had the same problems when I started. There are a few ways to solve this problem. One is by using paint then selecting
resize.I have in the past taken it from 100% to 40% it then is a good size and knocks the file in half. You could take it down even further here is the same photo resized at a different percentage.

This top one was resized at 15%.Took the file size from 1.25MB to 55.2KB.You may not need to go that small.

This one I did at 40%.File size from 1.25MB to 484KB.So that one is properly the better size.Once you have the size then just save as JPEG.Then you should be able to upload your picture with no problems.
There other programs out there that can do it,but I won't confuse you with them as they all have a different ways of doing it.The simplest program sometimes (As is this case) are the easiest and the best way to go.
Give that a go see how you go with that.
Then when you go to upload your pictures click on this icon.
[Linked Image]
then another window will open.
Then click on browse select your file and when selected click on add file from your pc.Add the photos you want then click all done.It will add your photos into your window where your message is.It's easy when you do it a couple of time.
Keep the questions coming as we all very happy to help.
Hope this all helps.

Yep they worked.Actually that's quite a neat looking head no fins broken.
Yes the number 2 on the head appears to be some kind of casting mark,I'm fairly sure it doesn't mean much.Possibly something like the second cast of the head.
As I said about the 0 on the crankcase still unknown what it means. Most of the crankcases have something other the engine number on them.
Looks like you got the hang of posting the photos.
