I own a 2002 model Victa Super 2 160cc with black plastic carb and it goes fine but on start up and when I shut it down or get it running real slow there is this strange metal clunking noise comeing from the engine (I think) It almost sounds like the bottom plate is wobbling around or the blades are hitting something but its all tight. I was wondering if it was something to do with the timing? Maybe it needs to be retarded? What do u think.

Steve,

Can you check behind the blade plate washer to see if it is shinny?

Why I ask this is because I am sure that the blade plate is not tight which will cause the noise. This usually happens when people change the blades and either put the washer back on in either the wrong place or back to front. The washer has stamped on it 'NUT' side. cheers2

Is there any trick to getting this nut done up tight? all the repair places I rang said they just use a ratler gun (compressed air gun) I did take the base plate off and it was very hard to get that nut done up tight. So is there any tricks to this?

Sorted fellas, thanks. It was coming loose. Could not see any marks on the washer saying "nut side" so I did it up as tight as I could and hit the socket with a sledge hammer a few times. That got it done.
Thanks again.
