Yes!! Yes!! Yes!! I finally flippen got one!! That's right a 1963-64 Consul 2 Model 511.So far this has proven to be a very hard model to find(yes I know there are harder to find ones. I'm still looking for those)but hard enough non the less. She isn't in great shape but certainly fixable. The base is cactus but I have a better one that will be much easier to fix. Here have a look.

See the base looks like a train wreck for sure.

Looks like an aluminium eating mouse has been chewing on it,and yes I've seen and herd about aluminium eating mice too.

I haven't checked the engine number yet but from what I can see there (pictured) I can see a 63 so at least it could be the right year.

She is rough but at least it has the right handles and there is enough for me to restore this beauty.

Whooo I'm happy about this one.It don't look much now but she will when done.

No not the same as a utility they took the same base as a model 6 Sherrline or cadet. Infact there was only small differences between the 3 models. Things like cowls and handle bars and with the cadet a different air cleaner.

Is there a base there at all?? bigshock

Good Find, You have another base though so Restoration will be easier.... I would have to say though, If I had seen that mower at a tip I would have probably called it a write off, But to the trained eye This mower will be a good one.

Also, I have heard of aluminum eating mice also, But then again.. mice eat weird things, I have seen Mouse chew'd gas lines more times then I care to count.

Yes please do. Kori we have tough mice over here must be the heat. I'm not saying the other base is perfect but at least it's fixable.

We dont have a problem with mice chewing gas lines here, they are all copper, they do have the odd munch on a fuel line though...

Ah Joe,
You caught me with my American showing..

I'm Frankly Amazed what Mice Chew...IE: Fuel tanks, Right through Elec chords(Plugged in!), Mower wheels, Alloy bases, Fuel/air lines etc..

Tomo yes yes and yes.I would,I think I have the front air filter box spare but for memory it was a bit buggered. As I had to replace one that was on my Cortina 2 and I'm fairly sure now (as I keep typing) that I put it on that one.It had rusted in the wrong spots.I think I still have it but I think it really is only good in the scrap pile.I'll have a look on the weekend but I'm not sure if it is any good.I think I only kept it as it was the only spare one I had.I am a little worried about the engine as I can clearly see that somebody has played around with it and the top part of the crank case has been changed.Hence why it doesn't have the filter box on.No screw holes,so why would that have been needed to be changed.I guess I will find out soon enough.

indeed , vccomm you have the top half of the cortina motor would do the job!
and no worries ill get you some stickers also got good samples over the years the bp sticker name sticker and the choke sticker

looks like you may need the cylinder head aswell jeffrey as it looks to me like the spark plug is angled which would indicate that the engine its self is an early utility in a consuls dress.

Thanks guys but the shine from this find has now gone. After a close look at the engine number it's all wrong. It's not a consul 2 engine at all.In-fact without checking my records (which I haven't finished recording yet). I'd say it has a utility engine on it.The numbers start with 668.Which means it's a 1968 model. That's about 5 years newer than it should be.Bugger bum poop. Not sure what to do now.The closet spare engine I have is the newer consul 2 engine which also has the wrong year on it.I knew it was to good to be true. These [Censored] things are so hard to find and I only found half of one.Just a bit sad about it now. banghead cry

OK this d*m mower is starting to become a major pain in the poop chute.OK about the engine that is all good now.I had a look around in the mower room last night as I couldn't remember if I kept it.Then eureka I found it and yes I did keep it.Here is how I received it.
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
I had forgotten that I kept the engine.I knew I threw the base out as it was toast as well.Although if you start comparing bases this one pictured here is in much better shape. Then the really big problem came up and smacked me in the face, now this one I can't just dig around and find it.As I know I don't have one.The base I was going to use as the replacement base,a model 6 Sheerline,a model 9 Sheerline or (and most likely not to use)a model 7A four stroke. All in very usable and fixable condition.Only problem is they are all completely different bases from the Consul 2.Bugger bum poop. You see the Consul 2 unlike the others that use similar bases, has the carby on the opposite site.So therefore there has to be a dip in the base to allow this. You don't understand what I'm saying here I'll show you then.
[Linked Image]
So you can clearly see that where are two dips to allow for the carby to either side of the engine.I know I know I could put the carby on the other side, but that then is one very important feature of the Consul 2 gone.
[Linked Image]
This is the model 9 Sheerline base.Similar but with one dip.
[Linked Image]
The two together clearly showing the different's between the two.
[Linked Image]
This is the model 7A four stroke.
Now it would seem that these bases are totally unique to the Consul 2 range as the slightly newer Consul 2 Model 521 I have here, has this same base as well.Again to accommodate the carby on the opposite side.So now I need a Consul 2 base to keep this dream of restoring alive.Yeah right I know as much as the next guy even the 521 is a little more common but even that doesn't show up very often either. Oh well let the search being I guess. There really isn't a way of saving its original base.Would cost way to much if it could anyway.

Still having troubles finding a base for this mower. However I have managed to find another one. It's still not in the greatest condition but it still is more complete than the last one.I'm going to make some phone calls and see if this one is at least in some way repairable.
This is the one I have got now.
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
I'll strip the engine off it and take some better pictures I just hope there is enough there to be able to save it.

Wow what terrible mower my first Consul 2 model 511 was.Really wasn't much that was usable on the poor old thing.I dare say it had spent a lot of time sitting out in the weather.
Anyway as my grandmother used to say "good things come to those who wait."
Well I've certainly waiting long enough. As I waited one finally poked it's head up and although there was a lot of offers back and forth a deal was finally made.
I did however, really had to step up and pay a lot more than I really wanted to,but at the end of the day I got a Consul 2 model 511 worthy of being able to restore.
Some of the really awesome things about it is.
It come with it's original side catcher.
It also came with the original side chute.
Also came with the original owners Manuals.
Here is some pictures.

Here it's it brother a (1964-65) Consul 2 Model 521 showing off the side chute which came with the 511.
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
As you can see it has a piece missing from the front of the base and it is worn on the opposite side of the catcher (On the base I mean),but seeing how rare these mowers and especially the bases it's certainly nothing I can't fix.
It is suppose to be a runner but the hose from the carby to the air cleaner isn't there and I just haven't had time to find something to go there.I will soon as I want to see it running. Also have been very busy of late and just haven't been able to get to it yet.
All in all I do believe that this mower is worthy of the topic name.I know I was happy when I found the first and with this one I'm over the moon.
I'm very happy with this one yes,and so I should be took a very long time to find a good one.
