Have you got one of those Briggs tanks with the fuel gauge built into the cap? Is it all yellow and cracked? Well here's an easy fix. Go to Aldi and buy one of their pepper grinders. The cap on the grinder is an exact fit as a replacement for the old perspex in the fuel cap, clips right in solid as a rock. Just have to get some 1200 wet and dry and some Brasso to polish out the logo and you're good to go.

Hi AT and SnB
What a great tip!
Thank you Aussietrev ... and thank you Aldi!

I Have to Ask
Aussietrev, I have to ask: what induced you to see the similarity?
Did it happen at a barbecue ... when you had a Eureka moment?
Were there any verbal expletives yelled out? Did people notice?
Is the Aldi Pepper grinder good value?

p.s. I will shortly move this post to the 'Tech Talk' forum,
as it should not be lost in 'Off Topics'.

Good seasoning.

Hi Jack,
no, not at a barby. I had removed the old cracked perspex and was wandering around the house thinking, what bit of packaging has hard enough plastic that I can cut a new bit from. I thought about things that you need a chainsaw to open, you know the things, they are in such tough plastic that it is pretty certain that the packaging will outlast the contents by 1000 years. Then I remembered those disposable pepper grinders had a clip in lid. I had two, an older McCormacks which turned out to be just too big, and a new Aldi Stonemill brand one which turned out to be exact, even having an internal lip that fits down into the slot in the Briggs cap. No one was present to witness my brilliance so I had to share it here :-) And yes, like just about everything Aldi, it is great value, especially having a repurposable lid.

The pepper pot lid in place now with the logo polished out. Luckily the logo is raised rather than recessed making it a pretty simple job. Cleaned the dial as much as I could without risking damaging the original markings and the indicator needle repainted in Rover Red. Not too shabby I reckon for virtually no cost other than a bit of wet and dry paper and a few drops of Brasso.

It did didn't it, and an inherently good read -
because of the mental connections made between similar parts
in very dissimilar applications. A good example of Aussietrev's thinking
"outside the square" smirk and with his great images too.

Pepper pigs for a Briggs.
