I haven't touched this motor for a while and I know nothing much about them. With this motor running, the governor is kicking in and out with it just sitting running, is this normal? If not any ideas as to what is needed to fix it?
Hi Gambler, it does it at all speeds, I didn't think it was normal but it starts first pull and sits there running well except the governor is constantly kicking in and out
Check the oil level, had a little Scorpion generator in with the same problem and the tenant had stuffed around with everything, fuel filter and tank cleaned out, jets cleaned, float checked etc., and swore he had checked the oil but topping it up on level ground, starting it and resetting the minimum speed screw and it purred like a kitten and still does.
Thanks Gadge, I did pull the carb and went through it a couple of months ago but it made no difference. It is so difficult to get at the governor, that I think it will be easier to pull the motor out and work on it on the bench. I'm not even sure if it has the governor spring on the rod, can't see in there, I know the butcher boys have been playing with the lower spring as it looks nothing like the ones in the manual
Ok I have another one that is hunting, it runs fine, instant fire on the button , just has this hunting issue, will pull the carby and have a look good motor this and has not done a lot of work
I have another question about this motor, it has a small plastic box about 25mmx25mm black box about the size of a relay in the wire coming from the stator, I assume it is a rectifier which is then wired back to the battery, does anybody know if this box needs to be earthed back to the body, I'm guessing not but just want to be sure. I have decided I will run an earth wire from it to the body just to be sure. My next question is do these use a starter solonoid to the starter or do they just run heavy wires through a starter switch. The wires from this switch were missing and I don't believe it was original anyway. I have pulled a numbers of starters and wiring from the Victa electric starts and they don't use a solonoid just heavy wires
Ok so now I have to decide what I can use this motor for, the biggest Honda blade carrier I have is 18 inch, seems to be a bit of a waste for this motor, I have a good condition Pope base here in fairly good condition I could put it on but I would have to make up a battery box for it so I can fit a battery to it. The thing I dislike about the Pope is the bag catcher but the 2 Greenfields I have, both are bag catchers as well
I'm still wondering if anybody knows if I should fit a starter solonoid to this or what do they do one these electric start mowers and there are plenty of the out there. The Victa E/S ones didn't and I'm using the wires from a Victa one so hopefully should be heavy enough
