Today I was "Selling" mower parts at the Blackbutt Swap Meet.
I ended up with a Department store Special, an unmarked engine with a 2A pulley, a special cover, and lots and lots of parts.

But then some guy told me he had a Pace spanner and gave me his address, which happened to be just around the corner. Turns out he had lots of other good things too. I might buy some Atco reel mowers of him for $25 each next time where in the area.

I might already be selling it, I will message you on Tuesday or Monday night about it Gizmo. The pulley might end up on ebay.

well i had to ask.
if your selling it on ebay then i wont bother as they often sell for ridiculous money.hence the reason why i dont have one.
thanks again

I understand Bazz, I was trying to sell some stuff to get some more money though, so welling it on ebay might get me the money I wanted. I was sitting there from 6AM until 12PM and only made $5. frown

well if you can sell some of that stuff you should get a decent profit .
i am glad to see a young fella with a great interest an keen eye. i didn't get an interest in this stuff until my 50s.and i already have no room left so probably a good thing i didn't start collecting earlier. blush

Thanks Bazz, I am out of room now, I have to stop hoarding and start selling, hopefully I can get more room before I have to sell my rare ones.

Thats the bad thing about Ebay Norm, I like Gumtree but you can't do auctions. I have told everyone how to auction things of on my Facebook page but I haven't tried it yet, i'm not sure whether many people would bid or not, might try something small first.

Hi Kye and all

I see a Victa Green book there, and those two slotted
wheels ... same size as the Gardener?

A nice close-up of the Pace spanner would be appreciated smile

Perhaps when you are in 'selling mode' at these swap meets ...
dress in pauper clothes, smear old oil on your face, hands and feet,
and call everyone 'Guv' (go barefoot)...

Explain your wages as a chimney sweep don't permit you to eat everyday.
A sort of Oliver Twist (but with a twist).

At this point Dad enters (in master's costume), clips you over the ear,
and shouts (in front of customer), "Lad, you won't be eating tonight at
that price!". Now, you do the sad puppy-dog eye look and rub your tummy...

Sales should improve.

Hope this helps.

Jack at the start I thought you were saying I should be a bogan so no one lets me buy stuff haha! In the end I was happy with the $5, as now I have finally decided to start selling some of my mower collection, its time for a cull frown

And yes the wheels are the same, even say V.E.W on them, $1 each, I didn't even try to bargain. But then I talked to the seller, they had a box of goodies (each thing was $2 and there was about 7 things) which they said I could take for $5. Very happy! I will get a close up now.

The people I got the wheels of said they will be at Nambour swap and are going to bring some Pope wheels, and the way there were talking about them, I think there NOS!

Also has anyone notices the flintstone wheels on the department store yet?

Thanks Jack. The green book says it was printed in 1968 yet it goes up to 1972. I got it for $10, very happy!

Yes Kye

These Master Manuals have ring binding to enable dealers to
update pages sent by Victa to them.
Each page should have its date on it.

That makes sense Jack, I could't get my head around the fact that on one age it said feburary 1972 and on the other it said 1968.

It's one of the 'tricks' of Master Manuals Kye.
Dealers would be told to discard old pages when new ones arrived.

Some folk have complained that the Green Books have errors,
but the reality is that they are 'static' - meaning that they
capture things at one point in time. They don't show superseded
parts and they can't foresee changes made after printing.

Is yours a Volume One then?
I bet it doesn't showw the 'Flintstone wheels' grin

Cheers

Yep, good score on the 'green book'.

The story on the publication dates is that it first came out in 1968, as you say, and supplements came out each year to update it with the new models. As Jack says, that's why it's a ring binder format, with a lot of rings to stand up to heavy use.

Updated/corrected pages for the earlier models were also supplied to Victa's dealers, and these will have a publication date footer on them. Anything without the revision date on it is original 1968.

There is also a 'Volume 2', which covered the 1972-3 and 1973-4 models.

The updates to include Victacodes came out in latish 1970, as near as we can judge.

Cheers,
Gadge

I am not sure what volume it is, but it is Manual No. 1328 if that helps. He had the names of the people who owned a mower above that type of mower, Kevin Ryan and Ray Winson owned Cortina 2's and the stores own mower was a Victa utility! Might be something interesting for the records.

Off course the flintstone wheels aren't in it, the department store is never in the green book haha!

It has lots of exploded views in it and useful info, I was very happy with it and it will now become a prized part of my collection. 4-stroke exploded views are off there head...

Yep, if it hasn't got 'Volume 2' on the cover it's Volume 1 right enough. Still a great score for that price, though. grin

Just don't expect the diagrams to be completely error-free - they weren't, as I recall from back in the day.

Gadge
