Can anyone advise how to remove a pair of really old bearings from the scott bonnar 45 reel.

Probably not what you want to hear but essential if you need to remove bearings on a regular basis

Hi Clacker,

Yes Norm is correct as that's the best method due to the washer that's in place prior to the bearing being pressed on.

If worse comes to worse, lay the bearing on the edge of a solid steel strike and with eye protection on strike the outer bearing so as to break it, you must support the reel parallel to the surface of the strike so as not to damage any part of it, then use a 4 inch angle grinder with a thin cutting blade on it and very carefully cut through the inner race without damaging the reel shaft. I know that sounds a bit rough but if you do it carefully you'll get it off without any dramas.

Nice and slowly, but the bearing puller set is the best method.

Cheers,
BB

Thanks gents. Some bolt buster on the reel shaft, a bit of time and careful use of knockometer aka hammer and pinch bar and got both bearings off.

Next problem is trying to remove the sprocket that connects to the back roller!

Glad they came off, sometimes the knockometer still won't get them off
