I am just about finished restoring this one for a friend of my daughter. It belonged to his father so he wanted it cleaned up a bit. This mower spent the last 20 years sitting in a compost heap, so you can imagine the condition it was in when I started fixing it

Thanks Slash, job well done on showing me how to put a pic in here. The engine number on this one is 127 177 if that helps date it Sadly I didn't take any before pics but there was a couple of holes through the plate where the axles fit, axles were deeply rusted, areond the engine mounts it had been welded up with big lumpy weld. JB Weld to the rescue on so many bits on it, only good for sitting on a shelf, but he should be happy with it

Slash the only thing I replaced on it apart from gaskets and the sticker was the blade carrier because a section of it had completely rusted away. The hub caps are steel and had big holes in them so I repaired all those. The purpose of it was to retain all the bits because it was his fathers mower I didn't want it to end up like grandpa's axe, it has had a new head fitted and 3 new handles but it is still grandpa's axe

Well it's a heck of a nice ornament. What's the story with the wheels? I haven't seen those on any toe cutter before and steel hub caps? Surely they started life on a different machine? Anyway, I know what you mean by grandpas axe, I have my "Pa's mower". I'm glad you were able to follow my rant and work out how to post pics.

Slash the wheels surprised me, no idea what they were off but the tread on them is still quite good. As for its original condition it probably looked like most of the ones you see on ebay that have just been pulled out of an old hay shed, but at least it was totally complete Even the starter pulley has its fair share of JB Weld, it was badly corroded

G'day Norm and slashnburn

Given the description of its original condition, you have weaved
magic here Norm. The paint seems so thick and lustrous. Brilliant!

I can answer the questions on the wheels.
They were the subject of a patent and are a very good wheel.
They are ... shocked

Lovely looking job Norm, the only problem being it's for someone else's 'mantlepiece'!

Was wondering about the wheels too, so must be learning something... cool
