Thast's a great looking unit. What are your plans from here? Does that say Jap on the fuel cap?

Hello Sir Bat

A warm welcome to these great forums.
The significance of this has not been lost on me.

It is a real treat - and an important addition - to see a rare Model 22,
Scott Bonnar's first Rotary. But something makes this one super-special ...

It is our first evidence of the even-more-rare kick start that I
covered in the History Record (below). This kick start addition was
probably made to the Model 22 when the Model 31 was introduced.
So the best date would be 1958.

This is fantastic information for the record.

Thank you.

I thought this might generate some interest, this mower is going to be left as is, I kind of like the patina it has. the only significant thing missing is the air cleaner from the handle bars. The sprocket pictured is also not original, made this up from a diamond back bicycle sprocket, I still have the original sprocket but it free spins both ways, surprisingly it is a Villiers midget bicycle sprocket. Any more questions and I will be happy to answer. This mower was found as is at a rubbish tip, will try and get some pictures of the blades because they seem to be original. Unsure where I seen the other pictures of a spincut on here, but they were chasing original wheels I think this would be rather difficult as the wheels on this machine have enamel centres.

Great to hear your leaving it as is. Sometimes it seems more valuable to leave things in this good a condition alone and just enjoy them. Looking forward to all further pictures. Not too surprised to hear it utilised an existing sprocket. Back in the day it was common to use what was on hand in the parts box.

That is great news! It has beautiful patina.

Yes, Villiers did sell these sprockets to industry. I have a J&P Simplex that uses a Villiers free-wheel sprocket on the reel.

That this mower was found at a rubbish tip will have SB enthusiasts weeping.
I wouldn't mind some more photos for the record.

Thank you, again, for helping us record Scott Bonnar history.

A truly significant find!

Here's a few more pictures of my spincut. Before someone points it out I know the fuel tap is not original, I have the correct one sitting around and have yet to change it. The sprocket is also not original, this was free spinning both ways and I have put on a modern equivalent to get it running, will change it back to something more period correct given time.
Cheers Sir Bat.

Hello Sir Bat

Thank you again.
I will link the official record to this post shortly.

I love the remnants of red paint on the blade holder.
The extra photos do give extra detail on this machine.

Of particular note is the spacer below the engine, and
the trumpet muffler.

I take it those are nylon bush wheels.
I think SB introduced the ball-bearing wheel with the
Model 35 (and boasted about it).

Yes they are nylon bush wheels and then the next part is enamel with a hard rubber tyre,
if you would like more pictures, or close ups of anything in particular I will do my best to help.
Cheers Sir Bat.

Hello Sir Bat

Great detail shots there of the 22, and we get a good look at
the SB snorkel adapter. What a stunningly original mower!
