Hey fellas, 9 series head gaskets have a few different part numbers one being #698717 which looks similar to part #272170,but #272170 doesnt wrap around the valves as much as #698717.Part #272170 seems to be the current replacement but what I was wanting to know is does it effect the engine in any way.Any help would be appreciated thanks.

As squizzy says, it's just a parts supersession thing. The newer part will do exactly the same job.

What's the number given in the parts list for the engine you have?

Cheers,

The part number is the 698717,they are a bit harder to come by and have a much higher price so if there is no real differnce I will go for the cheaper and easiest(obviuosly.)I don't understand why the price difference on basically the same part??Thanks for the help squizzy and gadge

698717 GASKET-CYL HD
Part Superseded From: 272170
Alternate Parts: 4123 Package of 5 Each

The 698717 also replaces
Briggs and Stratton 270341
Briggs and Stratton 272536
Briggs and Stratton 272536S

I too am wondering why the change up. I would need to order in the 698717 on my next stock to verify the shape change and material used as I got about 5 of the older metal version on hand.
