Will a wise person advise how much left to right travel is needed for the self-propel to engage (what the arrow's pointing to). tia

I'm squeezing the handlebar lever & the lever (arrowed in the pic) moves about a cm but no drive at all, even with the mower off the ground.

Hi PhilCal,

How much movement (freeplay) do you have at the point where your arrow is in the photo.
BTW the freeplay I'm referring to is by moving it with your fingers and not using the hand trigger on the handle bar.

Cheers,
BB

so I gather your hand trigger (Landroll clutch lever) is moving through that 5 mm range before tensioning up ?

The lever is almost to the handgrip before I feel tension, I've tried the adjuster down on the mower but need some idea how far across that arrowed part is supposed to move.

Hi Philcar,

You should adjust the cable adjuster so that there is tension on the cable with the clutch fork being about 4to 5 mm away from the side plate of the chassis. If you run out of adjustment get back to me and we'll tackle that part next.

Cheers,
BB

Hi BB

I did pretty well run out of adjustment so split a plastic wall plug along 3/4, drilled a hole at the end of the cut & slipped that over the cable right next to the endcap. That's gives me about 4mm from the side plate & tension on the handlebar lever. I can feel drag on the rear rollers if I pull the mower backwards, if I wind the adjuster further out it locks up the rear from going backwards. Still have no fwd power at all.

Hi PhilCal,

Well that's not good at all. I'm wondering how much cork you have lrft on your Land Roll clutch plate. The only way of finding that out is by undoing the nut that you can see about halfway down the clutch fork which is the part you are attempting to adjust.

You'll have to remove the drive chain that supplies the motion from the cutter sprocket and the undo the centre bolt and nut assembly which will then free the outer pressure plate. Do take notice of the position of the nut on the thread and roughly how many threads are protruding from the nylock nut as when you put it back together it will be crucial to have that centre bolt correctly adjusted.

Honestly I wish I could just come and look at it myself as I find it so much easier to look at an issue personally.

Cheers,
BB

thanks for all the advice, alas I forgot how dumb I am!!! I was trying to engage fwd drive WITHOUT engaging the cutter - tout alors. The mighty S-B is now the best cylinder mower in Mudgee. Thanks again.
