hello everybody i've just bought new rings from outdoor king for my 8hp briggs model 191702 type 1165-01 code 81102609 the new rings have a dot stamped on them i assume this faces the towards the top of piston my problem is the old rings have the bevels on the top and second rings facing opposite to the direction the bevel face on the new rings so i'm not sure if the old rings were installed incorrectly or the new rings are wrong any advice on this problem would be much appreciated.

First the dot faces up (top of the piston). Also see the below for the different style rings and their orientation.

thanks AVB after looking at the chart you posted it seems the 1st and 2nd groove rings were packed in reverse eg 1st in the 2nd ring pocket and 2nd in 1st so i will now install them confident they are installed correctly once again thank you for your help.
