I bought this one locally this morning, Engine number, what can you tell me HT6 ? Engine turns freely and looks in good shape, spark plug lead has been cut off but grommet is still there. I will be on the look out for a carb and air cleaner if anyone has one please contact me.

Hey Paul,
Boy oh boy, you and Chris are finding some rare and unusual Pieces!
188X prefix is a Mk3 98cc Midget and was supplied to Technico".
Love the muffler, very rare style...
Hope that helps...

Thanks HT6, now I wonder who was Technico. Perhaps Jack might know some background, I found a carb that fits amongst my Villiers spares. I think it might have come off a later model ?

Hey Paul,
Yes Jack should have some info on Technico...
The carby is off a Villiers 7F, The carby will be the same as your Villager, Pace, Victa Fan, and others, plus most early Mk1/2 Villiers fitted reel mowers.
You need the earlier type, (V508) ? Very similar to the Victa 3F...ill see if I can find an Image.

Love your work Jack, it's like putting a cake in the oven and it comes out iced and ready to eat. Thanks very much.

Change of post and additional material, my engine post was tagged onto your post (HT6) Jack has moved it, retitled it and added the additional material on Tecnico mowers. Nice tidy up.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for that tasteful culinary metaphor. I try not to do things half-baked.
Out of interest, the Tecnico has an unusual crankshaft end because, like the Ogden Trojan, it used a spring clutch for shock protection.
Cheers and thanks. -------------------------- JACK

Yeah, Plenty of titles, threads and posts have been changing lately...
I never asked your intentions with this one Paul?
Another Static display like the Ogden, until a base comes along?
Carbs and throttle controllers come up on the bay quite often, under Victa and Villiers listings, but the Bell" filters are a bit harder to find.
Gaskets rings, bushes and seals are still available in Aus, And a few electrical parts and coils from the UK...Provided the piston is ok, you should have no trouble getting her running.
Another good score you've come across again...:)

Hi HT6, I will get it running and repainted, hopefully a base may come up one day. I would fit it to a Pace body for ease of running it, if one comes my way. I did notice that this Pace body had some extra holes in it for another engine, would it have had a Midget engine as original and then upgraded to the 7F ? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/antique-...-mower-/262066141590?hash=item3d045bf996

Hello PaulThe answer is yes. This chassis was offered with the 7F and the 98cc Midget and the 70cc 3G for a period. This advert dates from December 1957:-

Thanks Jack, That will do nicely as a base and loads of 7F spares, I stripped off the tank and cowl to have a look at the magneto I cleaned and gapped the points, replaced the spark plug lead and now have spark :-) The fuel tank had the usual oily mess in it which is better than rust, I have some fresh fuel in it now so it can soak for a while. Found an old Champion D16 plug that should do to get it running, I am sure I have a ML50 plug somewhere. Engine has great compression and turns over smoothly, I am confident that she will run well.

Hey Paul,
Sounds good, They are a nice runner, I prefer them over Victa...
May I ask the date code if you don't mind please?
So this is going on the Pace base? The same as the ebay example base or the earlier one you showed in the Pace thread?

Hi Mal, Where do I find the date code ? Hopefully if I win the Pace off EBay. If the correct base comes along one day I will reunite them but until then the Pace will do.

Thats not a bad idea...They do look much nicer with the Midget, and will be a good use of the engine as you said, till hopefully a TECNICO" base comes along... The date code is on the top of the flywheel on the inner edge of the rim section There will be an R code then the last 3 digits will be the date. Eg 9/ 59

Do I need to remove the flywheel to see it ? I noticed in the advert supplied by Jack that the two mowers on the right of the 7F have the older ? Bases. The 7F is sitting on a different style ?

No mate, its on top of the flywheel, just in line approx with the stud that holds the fan assy on...:)
In regards to the bases, Yes thats correct. This is why I asked you which base you were using, the ebay one or the earlier one...
The later base in your ebay ad(and Jacks ad) only came with the 7F and 3.6 HP 125cc Victa 2s
The 98cc midget and 70cc 3g used the earlier longer bases like the one you put up in the Pace thread....

So the bolt holes probably won't match up then ?
