Looks a lot like a model 8 to me.
Here some pictures of my one.

Mine has the wrong air snorkel on it,I'd say was changed before I got it.
There is also one on eBay which has had some modifications done to the base.Has had some bent pieces of steel welded to the base as well as some blocks of steel added to the axle supports doesn't look that great.

Mate thanks for the Id. That snorkel would look cool with a motorbike airfilter.
Does it run?

Definately a model 8 as Blumbly has Stated, also with correct serial.

It should be the early 125cc with port covers.

BAD as I had always assumed was model 8 and early sheerline 6 by the many examples Ive documented.

Recently we have had a few BAD serial examples on model 5 S2 mowers, Yours and VMans, and with the same earlier stamping style of the last model 5S2s, things became a little confusing.

I now am reverting back to this Serial sequence as being Sheerline Era only as Id always assumed to be correct from my research examples...

So Yours and VMans BAD engines are not correct fittment for your model 5S2 Mowers....

i was lead to believe that if i changed the motors over they would be original, cant remember the post and i have lost the book i have been writing my mower info in(crazy?? had no interest in mowers 12 months ago, because of you guys i now service mowers on the side, thankyou all) and read jacks history page all day. yes have looked into help but to no avail, a counciller agreed with me and gave me two mowers.

HT6 the busdriver finds mowers for me. this is his dads and he is interested in the history to tell his old man. I do not know what he wants to do with it but I have advised not to try and start( lives on the beach)ask his dad what he wants to do with it.

Hi Sean
That's a classic line laugh

I see artistic flair in your first photo in this post.
Looking straight down with that beautiful blue floor colour and texture.
The composition says Toe Cutter: man against mower.

All very clever.

I personally thought it was a Victa 18" 57/58 model 3.

Hi Sean,

The trick here is to note the single-point lever height adjustment.
When you see that you know it can't be a Victa that dates from the 1950s.

Hope this helps.

They are quite similar Sean...but 60-61, And they ran alongside the Sheerlines And Four Stars.

Basically they just have the addition of the height adjuster.

They are a nice tidy little Utility that look great when they are complete and restored.

Unfortunately, as with the Model 3 Rotomo, they are undervalued and less desired by collectors, who tend to seek the earlier rarer models.

But truthfully, I see more model 2 Rotomos than I do the model 3 and 8s...

When the rest have dried up, I think they will get the recognition they deserve, especially the 8 as its Victas first integrated height adjustable utility, and the last to use the Original Cowled 3.6 125cc port cover engine.

the owner is going to give it to his son, who is not sure what he will do with it. i think he may have thought he had a gem. I told him that i have mowers that are not worth much but i wouldnt let them go for quids. i think he was disheartened. I just hope i gave him the correct info.

Well that's what happens Sean people have these old mowers and think because there old there worth big $$$$.Only to find it's as common as those bloody black ant's at your family picnic and worth just as much as those ants.Little buggers they are.

All The Info you've been given is correct...

Im sure you gave an honest account from the info here, so he at least knows what he has. What his intentions are,are out of your hands mate...

Its up to him what becomes of it....It is a Gem to some, but unfortunately not an expensive one...

People often lose sight of rare gems when they find they have little monetary value, this is why things end up in scrappies hands and another piece of history is lost.

I hope his son finds the true value in this little piece of history.

BTW, Id put a value on this machine of around $20-$30 in its current state.
