Hi all

I have a 10 month old Honda Buffalo bull (GSV190) fitted with a snorkel that when the engine gets warm the engine starts to hunt when it hits some form of load and will do this for about 20-30 seconds after coming of load. I can also emulate this by letting the engine idle for a while and then go to full throttle. The first time I have done this I drained the carbie bowl where I appeared to get a globule come out and then righted itself for about a month. However this problem has come back and I have dropped the fuel from the bowl and is all clear, However I have noticed that when I took the spark plug out it seemed to have a heavier than normal carbon deposits than what I would consider for a 4 stroke ( I have an old Victa VC 160 that ran with a cleaner plug than the honda. BTW Has anyone got a Inpulse trip starter for sale as mine appears stuffed. WOuld love to get that mower going again!!!). Back to the honda I take it I have got either crook fuel (which is fresh) or I have some carbie issues or alternatively the shop where I brought it from didn't re-adjust the mixture when the snorkel was installed when new. At its first service the machine had its throttle adjustment way out where top speed was 2400 rpm and this was re-adjusted. Would I be right in saying that this is fuel system related.

GregR,

It maybe fuel related but this is what I would be looking for:

1. Remove air filter(on carby) and check that the choke is not sticking, also make sure that the filter is clean.

2. Check the snorkel filter to see if it is in correctly, also make sure that the filter is clean.

3. Put a in line fuel filter on the fuel line.

4. Remove carby and give it a good clean.

I can upload Tec tips on carby's for honda to the parts list and manuals area. cheers2

Thanks for your good advice there Bruce. I have checked all that and all the filters are as good as new. The only thing I can now think of is, when the place that I brought it from did not adjust the fuel air/mixture appropriately when they installed the snorkel. Is it true for GSV 190's than when you put a snorkel on, you have to adjust the main jet to account for the length of the intake runner.

GregR,

Did they fit the correct buzz box(air filter)as you have different types for different honda model engines? cheers2

By the looks of things they covered the inlets to the filter box and then drilled a hole in it. Is that the correct procedure. As I got the thing new with the snorkel.

GregR,

Ok have you removed the plastic jet under the idle speed screw?

If not I suggest that you take out the screw and remove the plastic jet and give a good clean out.

If you take it back to the shop they will say it is dirty fuel. You can buy an in-line filter for the fuel line from the tank to the carby.

Get the information from parts list and manuals area under questions on lawn mowers. I have uploaded information on the Honda GCV 135 & 160 Also GSV190 motors. cheers2

Sorry for not getting back quicker. It ended up being water in the tank and crook fuel from the servo. Are honda's more finicky when it comes to the quality of fuel being used compared to B&S's.

GregR,

When you have water in your fuel it does not matter what brand it is it will have problems unless of course it is a steam engine. cheers2
