Hi all.
i thought this might be an interesting thread so I thought Id start it.

Ill be looking myself for a new straight shaft machine with a longer reach than my stihl fs36.

in general I am happy with the durability and strength of my stihl machines. They seem quite good. but im not an expert.

i have even a older stihl fs65 avr which is still going !

what are your opinions / experiences with other brands ?

gregc,

If you are looking at a lightweight machine I would go for the Tanaka excellent machine.

The shindaiwa machine is heavier but also is excellent.

The Echo has a bit of weight to it the same as the shindaiwa but also an excellent machine.

Forget weedeater, homelite mtd Jonseredand mcculloch as you will not be happy after using a Sthil but with the others Echo,Tanaka & Shindaiwa they will be better than the Sthil.

I would have Kawasaki at the top of my list, I've been using one
for 10 years, it still starts first pull they are expensive but well
worth it. Ryobi would be at the bottom of my list, nothing but complete rubbish.Stihl are overrated there just not worth the money.

gmax,

The Kawasaki are a good light machine as well but I found that the Tanaka had a bit more grunt. cheers2

I use a straight shaft Kaaz with a Mitsubishi 2 stroke Engine and it is one awesome machine. Highly Recommended.

Sold all the Victa's now into Rovers, have 2, need more.
