Hello
ODK History Lovers
Sometimes after-market mower parts and spark plug catalogues can be very helpful in
researching vintage mowers and other machinery. On the downside, they often contain errors;
sometimes significant ones. This one seems to have been well researched.
Here is a
Repco Motor Mower Engine Parts Catalogue for the
1960s. There is some good information
on
2-cycle engine theory and the
fitting of rings to engines in general. The focus is on
two-
cycle engines, of course, because the vast majority of lawnmowers were powered by this design.
It would only be in the 1960s that the
4-cycle would become a serious competitor to the
traditional 2-strokes. Today, it dominates.
This
alphabetical listing of lawnmower and engine makes is quite good - and comprehensive.
The catalogue is a reminder of the difficult work a Forum Historian has in recording these
makes. There are a few makes that I simply have no information on! I had never heard of a
Bartram rotary, or
Catch Pole rotary, or
Mowmor Minor. And what is a
Beaver scythe or a
Cyclo scythe! Any information from members would be most welcome.
Whilst I have some information on other makes, they largely remain a mystery: like the
Colda, Hasmow, Kleencut, Malvin, Meadow Bank, Mi-Ti-Mow, Pathfinder and Rawco.
The catalogue has
eight pages. The scans were taken from my original document.
