VeeeCeee, Shes A Very pretty Green . Definately the incorrect engine for M5 S1...I would Also have expected CAC or CAE, before the serial, but it is what it is I would like to see the stamping style in a clearer image for my own reference though, just to make 100% sure its not of the early style, which would make it earlier in the M5 Series (but still incorrect for your base) The fact it starts with C generally indicates a very late or intersecting S3, Or model 8 serial. In any case it's another number in the mess of the S3 range, which is many and all but indeciferable. Correct Range of 160,000- approx to 300,000+ would be accurate. All Model 4 and 5 Autos and specials used the same colour on both base cowl and handle bar retainers. Galmet Avocado. Handle bars and bracket both Victa Green (Wattle killrust in Deep Brunswick Green). This is of course excluding dept store models. The colour choice however is entirely your own:) Orange is nice lols... Linish your exhaust flange with a small degree of outer taper will help it seal better, and dont overtighten. Anyways,Do it how you want Mate, as long as your enjoying your Saturday Fun!

funny you should say orange too ............ i have a not real good base was gunna have a play with soon i thought chevy orange was a tad bright for this one . then ok . so its not correct anyway light green top it is now . thanks again and yes i do have the correct engine for it (was told it was rebuilt ) and it did run when i got it . so the retainers ones on base ? i wasnt too sure as out of 5 here only 2 had them painted . and there is/was a sort of felt type gasket from exhaust to base too i think . and yes a great way to spend a few hours out of the house even the cook was a happy camper !! thanks again MR 6

The lightening flash originally wasn't painted red.It was the same colour as the base.

The engine/barrel exhaust gasket and under base plate gasket are of an unknown metal composite (copper lead alloy) and surely bound by asbestos. The small round base exhaust gasket is certainly Asbestos. The fabric/fibrous small round exhaust base gaskets are the latest version and are crappy, usually requiring a few to take up the gap and compact tightly in the base flange. Even with the elongated hole on the inner exhaust flange pushed far forward, the clearance can still be to great. The worst part of this whole system is the lack of provision for both barrel holes to be used. When the System is fully sealed, they are a reatively quiet mower, and tend to run smoother. Yes the retainers that hold the handle bars to the base. If you have another S1 base then for the other engine, then do that all original if you like Naaaa orange is hideous.....Ice blue hammer, black handles and silver highlights....And flashing blue leds under the base. Ceramic exhaust, 8 inch slicks, electronic forced induction, flames, key start, lowered handles....skys the limit, Victa Drift Mower!

Lols....thats why so many restored mowers have the flashes painted red, because they dont have a steady hand! Baaa use a sponge next time, its easier and the flash is lower....cant go wrong....:)

![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2015/08/full-7392-23372-full_5264_23371_003.jpg) best i can do seems im having a problem loading photo's almost done just needs wheel caps now and as done as its going to get . thank you too chris125 for the cam and sundry's !! came in handy the gasket as i think the dog ate my exhaust one . put it in there , the guy doing it reset timing cleaned points , good spark when tested it . put it all together after all rebuilt started 2nd pull but ran like a dog , seems he was excited at almost being finished and forgot to set point gap . its big brother snuck in this photo , so dont yell at me ? look at front of base , its beyond it seems whoever had it rn over something smashed the muffler plate and alloy around it and came out through the front so just took off the rest , shortened the engine mount castings and that fell on it , rips through anything its pointed at now ! wheels from a pace just needed spacing .
