Stay calm. Get a good night's sleep... these are collectable machines - a sort of new-age Victa Automatic . These appeared for the 75-76 lawnmower year. It is no coincidence the Twins appeared just after it became obvious to Victa that the Sarich powered Victa was a dud. https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=63018#Post63018The Twin was not a commercial success and a total indulgence on Victa's part. It really didn't make any commercial ... or even rational sense. That's why people love them ... or, at least, collect them. I hope it meets your wildest dreams.----------------------------------------- JACK

The old bloke that is giving it to me has had a passion for fixing mowers for about 400 years. he is real old, the emotion in his voice when talking about mowers was infectious. he has been giving his mowers to the scrap man. I had a quick look at his mowers and told him if I can get them working and sell them he could have half. He said no thanks you have the bug you take them, come around and grab what you want. He still mows his own lawn.

Hello Shaun and ODK Members & Guests
What a great story! I am sure you will do the right thing by the twin and the old bloke. It's amazing what one can learn from the 'old folk'.
Cheers. ------------------------- JACK

I bought one of those new, it was nothing but trouble trying to start it. Victa replaced the complete engine under warranty and it ran okay after that but I ended up moving into a unit and sold it about 6 months later.

Apparently its the right catcher seems to fit snug enough. I was interested in the old green one what year it was made like.

Well looks like someone liked the colour Blue. The old green you asked about looks to be a Model 5 Speical series 3.The model 5's ran from 1957 to 1960. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2015/06/full-5048-22557-model_5.jpg) Seeing as it is the series 3 it would have been made in 1959 to 1960.The engine number shows that it could well be the original engine. There is no original documents to prove the engine numbers from that era,but from other collectors findings and expertise it has been found the series 3 numbers did in-fact start with letters. All in all though very good finds you have got there.
Here for a good time, not a long time.

Can not get any to start the only one that went pop was the old one. Will pull them apart clean them up and have another go. Tomorrow. My sons shoulder is hurting him(he is the starter) and so is mine and my missus's. will let you know how i get on. The chat with the old fella was gold, he reckoned he should put anotherone in my car to make them not move. then the parts. can not get spark or check for spark on the rear sparkplug on the 170.

Usually you'll find that if the air cleaner is OK and the carby isn't blocked it really doesn't take much to start a two stroke.Just be careful with the Twin they do have problems with rings being destroyed.Just make sure on that one that there isn't any crap in the cylinder. As your not going to find any spares for it,any time soon.Very very hard to find parts for and even when you do it's come from wrecking another mower to get them. It's hard to tell from your photos (and due to the colour change),but I do believe the Twin is what I call the 2nd version of the 500 twin and has the (Most likely) 1st updated engine on it with the carby heat shield on the base. The VC-160 would be the Mark II from 1971.If it has the original engine on it the number should be 5271.I'm just not sure I like the blue bases and the red dress cowl on the VC-160.Also the VC-160 doesn't have the original wheels on either. They are a later version of them.I still think you did very well though, wish I could find scores like that.Well done I say.
Here for a good time, not a long time.
