This question is aimed at folks with actual tear-down and restoration experience with Villiers/Atco "Midget" two-stroke engines of the various marks.

Seeing as there doesn't seem to be any manual in existence in the whole wide world for the Villiers Mk 1 Midget engine manufactured for Atco, but there is a Villiers manual covering the Mk2 and Mk3 versions of the Midget, I'm wondering how close (apart from obvious differences such as capacity and horsepower) Mk2 and Mk3 are to the Mk1, and thus the usefulness of those manuals in relation to working on Mk 1 engines.

There is very little difference at all so the manual you have will be fine. The timing was 5/32 inch btdc and the carb needle should be 15/16 inch protruding from the slide originally but has probably been adjusted. These engines run well and last almost forever . I have several and one in weekly use
