Im looking for a good used carb for a Kohler Magnum 20Hp (MV20S)

As long as its a inch an a bit Walbro WHG carb with the high and low speed needles, it will work.
So any opposed twin Kohler horizontal or vertical.

Mine is cactus, beyond a kit.
The high speed needle has rusted and it is not conical anymore, so it will not be tuneable. Im sure the seat is just as corroded.

Or at a pinch, if you have a high speed needle to suit, I might chance trying a rebuild.

You cant see the needle in question as its just under the float.

Not exactly the same but from a page I found on the net

As a bit of a side note, anyone have any thoughts on me buying one of these and adapting it to fit.

Ebay carb

How far off do you think the jetting would be???

The venturi suction controls the fuel flow rate through the main jet. There probably isn't much difference in volumetric efficiency between the side valve and OHV engines (though there is a big difference in scavenging efficiency and compression ratio, that does not affect venturi suction) so from that point of view venturi suction would be similar and calibration should be within reason. However you said the Kohler is a twin cylinder, and you didn't say what engine the ebay carburetor is for. The difference in pulsation in the venturi between single and multiple cylinders does have an effect on the mixture, especially the emulsifier calibration. It isn't a major difference, but it could potentially be noticeable.

Honda is an OHV V twin. Kohler is an opposed twin.

I probably could have made a honda carb work.
I also had my eye on a Kohler Carter (Chinese copy) carb thats pretty similar in design to the Walbro but off an older 16hp single.

My thought were that if the jetting is adjustable you should get it somewhere near it, but if the carb is designed around a different flow amount and air speed it would not be ideal.

Ive got onto a guy in the US via the My tractor forum thats got a new Walbro WHG carb that will do the trick. US$100 + post.

Probably the best way.

Your way and my way are different, Bob. I'd be finding an old carburetor with the same venturi diameter as the original, that had a convenient flange for mounting, sat well on the engine, was easy to connect controls to, and came with a good air cleaner that would also fit well on the engine. Then I'd repeatedly solder and drill-out the main jet and the emulsifier side-holes until it ran properly. However, we each have our own interests and pleasures. Paying $100 for the wrong carburetor does not even fit on my long list of preferences, let alone my short list.

Yeah I hear you on paying for the wrong carb.

So I bought the right one new. $175 posted from the USA.

Im awaiting its arrival.

Well, that is a proper first-class solution Bob. If that Kohler is a good engine, it should be worth the investment. At least it isn't a Tecumseh, or a side valve Briggs, or an Intek - I wouldn't be sinking $175 into any of those.
