This is a left-of-field story about a
publicity stunt.
This one was most probably sponsored by
Victa, but was locally organised.
The model was a
Victa Commander self-propelled 4-stroke ('with minor gearing changes')
and a riding sulky. A Victa dealer employee, John Miller, drove (rode) the machine 26 miles from
the New South Wales towns of
Wagga Wagga to
Junee.
p.s. the story says that this run was a world first - using a self-propelled mower to
cover such a distance. This, of course, is not true. I have written about
'Operation Matador' where a self-propelled Ransomes was driven 400 miles in 1959! [link below].
This, however, is our home-grown
