Can anyone on the board tell me how to compression test a single cylinder mitsubishi generator engine with soft-start incorpoated i.e how do you disable soft start so that you get true compresion test rather than a false reading. I can't find any visble mechanism such as a decompressor externally. any ideas gratefully accepted

nz635,

You will not see a decompresser as it is in the valve lifter system. cheers2

Thanks Bruce, so if you were doing a compression test how would you go about it in order to get a true reading?. Can you over ride the valve lifter, or is it a case that you can't actually perform a compression test

nz635,

If you pull the engine over a few times you should get a reading unless the valve clearance is not correct or the head gasket is leaking.

Is your reading over 70? cheers2
