Hello
ODK History Lovers
The venerable
Villiers 98cc Midgets were the engine mainstay
of many horticultural, agricultural, industrial, and leisure
equipment manufacturers of the 1940s, '50s, and '60s.
The Villiers
Midget MK1 originated in the interwar years and
it was clearly a successful design for automotive and other uses.
But it was the post-war Midgets that would augment Villiers’ reputation.
This article discusses the
Mk 2 and
Mk 3 Midgets that appeared
on-mass, post-war on Australian and New Zealand shores.
The first engines were British-made but Villiers (Australia) would begin
local manufacture in the mid-1950s.
Below is a recorded
Specification Document for Australia. It appears
genuine and I have added a couple of entries.
