Anyone know what could be causing fuel to spirt out through the tiny hole on tecumseh 4 stroke carby? Its on a masport Olympic 500 cylinder mower.

If you are talking about the tiny hole in the top of the float bowl, it is there to let fuel out when the carburetor is flooding. If fuel is coming out there, you need to take a look at the needle and seat in the float bowl.

Thanks very much.

Is this job suitable for a novice or should I get an expert to take a look.

It depends on whether you are interested enough to go through the learning pain, sporter. It may be very easy to fix, or less likely, the seat may be damaged and you may have to go hunting for a replacement part - possibly a second-hand one. The average expert will not be very enthusiastic about working on an old Tecumseh carburetor, so you might pay a fair amount of money for not very much success. Hence if you are interested in learning about engines, fix it yourself. If you regard the mower as a collector's item and you believe it is important enough to justify professional repair costs, I suggest you post pictures of it and discuss its collectability with Outdoorking members. There tends to be quite a lot of interest in cylinder mowers.

Hi Sporter, and a warm welcome to the forum. Its nice to have you aboard, as we all like to learn new things and tinker here. wink
It is really nice to welcome a Masport Olympic 500 cylinder mower owner to the forum. grin
Grumpy is our resident Tecumseh guru and will help you through the diagnosis...If you follow his instructions carefully, he will lead you to a successful conclusion and hopefully have the engine running sweetly. wink

Once again Sporter, :welcome: to OutdoorKing.
