Looking for a user/owners manual for a Parklander 12hp/30" mid engine mounted ride on (catcher mounts on the rear of the machine) Engine is a model 28R707, Type 1120-E1, Code 030721ZO. Just picked up a 2nd hand machine and need to know a bit more about it.

Parklander is a brand applied to various manufacturers' products. Their ride on mowers are made by Murray. Their 30" mid-engined model is a Murray 309029X92C. There are several ways you can get the owner manual. The first is to contact Parklands Power Products, and ask for one: http://www.parklands.net/products/ride-on-mowers/mid-engine/309029X92NThe second way is to ask Bruce, the Outdoorking site owner, and a Parklands dealer, to upload the manual. The third way is to look on the back of the mower or under the seat to get the correctly formatted number to match their prefix etc, then download the manual from the Murray site: http://www.murray.com/us/en/support/manuals/Murray's system is a bit weird, at least in my opinion, in that special information is included in the model number, telling them which distributor handled the mower. Their head office website's database may not include the Parklands distributor, so you may not get much sense out of it. All in all, it is probably best to just ask Bruce.

Thanks for the info, I will look again but I am stuffed if I can find a model No anywhere on the machine. I am guessing the code of 030721ZO means the engine was made on the 21st July 2003 but if anyone can clarify this it would be appreciated in sorting what year the mower was made. The mower is in very good condition as I was wary of machines like this which are not exactly the quality of a John Deer, Rover, Greenfield etc and I have had issues when I was given an old 12hp Yardman. The deck lift/lower was had it and needed a fair bit of work to get going. All the original stickers are on the Parklander though not perfect)and all the plastic, frame, tyres and body are very good but I still cant find a model No even under the seat so I was going off the 12hp/30" as a start. If anyone has any info on this machine please let me know.

Yes, that Code translates as 21 July 2003. The engine is a 28 cubic inch side valve type, made before production of most of the large side valve models was transferred to China. However the plant number of ZO mystifies me. It may have been some kind of interim number, since there was some juggling going on as most of the US plants closed one after another, in that period. Only OHV and DOV engines are made in the US now. Here is the Operator's Manual for your engine: http://bsintek.basco.com/BriggsDocumentDisplay/mssAIQ-K_ny7tH217FzoPu.pdfHere is the Illustrated Parts List: http://bsintek.basco.com/BriggsDocumentDisplay/Z6jtAAVJ1DajI.pdfWith regard to your other points, Murray, Home Power, Simplicity, Snapper, Ferris, and Yard Products are all owned by Briggs. Hence your mower, as well as its engine, is a Briggs product. The lightweight center-engine machines like yours are not intended for heavy or commercial work of course, and are not really intended to have a long life, but there seem to be plenty of Rover and other products of that type that are 30 years old now, still in service here.

Thanks again for the info. All good stuff to know. I will check the ZO again in case I misread things.
