Deejay, I'm not certain but I dont think the leaf guards came out on the series 1, or is it just for the look?

Thanks Jonesy, for the heads-up, I didn't know if it was standard fitment on the M5 S1, I would like one though, just for the look...it would be silver finished.

They came out starter models 12D and 12K which covered models from. Model 3,5,6,8,9,12.Utility models 501,509,510,521,522,540,550.Utility 125cc models 69VG & 69VG-1-2.Pace models 12A,69PB,69PB-1-2. So as you can see there were quite a few models that had them installed. They were installed to keep debris from getting inside and obstructing inside there as well as I guess wondering fingers that may have wanted to get in there.I guess over time with things going wrong and people taking them off to fix something and or changing to a pulley stater they just seem to be harder to get now. So good luck finding one Daryl you should be able to they are out there. Here is a picture of one hope this can help. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2014/07/full-5048-17169-boxes_009.jpg)

Thats a definate NO CJ....There is no reference documents or images relating to a leaf guard being used on the Automatic. Ill tread carefully here as ive not yet found a release date for them. They were however an option just as the toe ring was. The early model 5 special std 3 roto and the model 4 std also did not feature them in there early release. Predominantly they are seen on model 5 series 2 and 3 mostly as the recoil starter became more of a std fitment on these models and toward the end of the model 5 run... So I cannot confirm a release but im almost certain it was around mid to late model 5 series 1 possibly around the 250,000 mark...But in time ill find an accurate release. But....As with all restos its your choice to fit if you like, and truthfully there is nothing to say it wasnt offered to previous victa owners as a safety feature which could be fitted on their existing earlier models.

But didn't the automatics have the starter with the wire rope.In which case no there was no leaf guard. As shown below. Sorry Darryl this has taken your wanted add a little off topic.Perhaps it could be moved from your wanted section? ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2014/08/full-5048-17310-automatic.jpg)

You were more tip toeing around "treading carefully" as you said.So it could have been perceived as being unsure. That's why I added the picture.

I would have estamated into the series 2, probably not much more than mid run, but that is not proven, just what I have seen about. And sorry Deejay but I've only got a couple myself. my 2c worth.

So sorry mate, I was on the wrong train...and many thanks for that...I think one would look nice on the coffee table even though it was not original on my model, M5 S1. The more eyes out there the better.... Thanks again,
