I need the help of you Masters again. As I have been accumulating more units for repair, sometimes they can sit for quite a while b4 I get to them. In this case I have got the starters & the catchers separated from the mowers & because I want to try my hardest to repair them to not look like "bitsas".
1). Can you help me out with matching the two tops with the most likely mowers. To start with I have one Starter that has "VC" sticker & one with the sticker missing.
2). What catcher goes with what? Two of the Catchers are black with pinstripes and the other is orange like the Mustangs were.

Also of interest to me is the "white handle" on the one I have been working on. Is that significant?

Thanks for any help. [Linked Image]

From what I can see they are all VC-sports so the cowls (Or as you call them starters) will fit any of them. The cooling cowl with the series 80 sticker has come from another mower as all of them would be series 70's.
The catchers you have (the black ones) were only replacement catchers so once again can go on any of them, however if you were going to restore and or have in a collection you would put the correct colour ones to match the base.
The VC-Sports run from 1973 to 1978 and had two variations on carbys.
I believe the G3 carby models run from 1973 to 1974 and then the G4 carby models run from 1974 till 1978.Engine number should start with 10873 or 10874 so on and so as to what ever year they were made. You almost look like you have all the VC-sports there bar the Purple one and the green one with G4 carby.
Although I keep looking at the one with the 80 series sticker and keep feeling that possibly that one may not be a sports as it has the extra casting there for the setup for an auto drive and I really don't remember the VC-Sports (even the later ones) being on that kind of base.Would like to know the engine number of that one. There was however one that was part of the power-plus series and I'm thinking it is one of those. As they had that exact base. They had a black cowl and it could well have a high compression head on that one.
If you've got parts floating around off those ones and don't have anywhere to put them let me know as I am in search of some bits and pieces off the VC-Sports.

Gee Thanks Brumby, I do appreciate the help. I have fossicked around some more and found a DARK cowling that has "power plus" on it. So I will check the heads to see where it belongs & post my results for others benefit. I can understand the numbers now. The painted one has 108731-10143. 1973 right? Now I can check the rest tomorrow after church.smile.... So one more question to finish me off, how will I know when I get a VC Mustang Sports like you showed us in your VC Mustang posts? (Keep me informed of parts that are holding you up on a restoration and I will try to help.) regards.

Well now that's a tricky one as really the only thing that is difference between a VC-Sports and a VC-Mustang S is the sticker on the cowl. The VC-Mustang S had a remote primer with the G4,but there could be some VC-Sports with those too.As well as there engine numbers were still 10876 to 78 again depending on year made.I guess the only thing that was different was the victacode as the VC-Sports victacode was V137 and the VC-Mustang S victacode V207,but not all of them still have there original caps.So as you can see it's not as easy as the other models to tell them apart.Sorry there's just not much between them at all.

I'm really only in search of bases is the biggest thing I need.Like my VC-Mustang S has a very large crack from the trip up it had and another G4 sports I had the base was just worn out.

I saw this post yesterday and thought, "this is one for Blumby to answer" and whoop, there it is.
I was thinking they were sports models too but didn't know the finer details of their existance.
Christo, you know what they are now so you'll be busy for a while i'm guessing but would love to see the finished products.

Well bidted I guess when your right your right and you were right.
I guess it just comes from having an interest in them. Unfortunately with the move a couple of years ago from Canberra I seem to have missed placed some of my VC-Sports I guess that's why I'm trying to find the rest again.
