the motor was taken off in the early 70,s so it would not get worn out or damaged. has a bun type muffler

Wow I have no idea what you have that base matches nothing I've seen or have in any of my books.
To me it looks like somebody has joined two mowers into one.
The base looks like a Utility base something like a Model 550 1968 right through to a 1971-72 Utility model 71VH. However somebody has cut the axle brackets off and welded a Rotomos axles on.Also used the Rotomos handles and tank but then put a series 70 engine on it.Could you post up the engine number of the engine on the base I'd just like to know what year it was made.
That other engine you have looks like a late model 5 engine.Just curious as to why the head appears to be round the wrong way.

coolrussy believe me that is in no way a model 2a.
The one pictured below is a 2a.

yes, that's what I thought mate. the mower was purchased by the current owner in 1958, and was originally a 2a with steel wheels. the motor was removed in the seventies and a new motor fitted. plans were to restore mower. the motors that he had were more modern. there was a lot of good bits though. bun muffler, model 2a throttle. heaps of nos blades, piston rings and seals. I will upload a photo of the motor that was fitted, it looks modern ie 60's. very interesting. head is wrong way around on the late 5 motor as its loose and put on wrong

You wont find info because its not an original. Made up from 3 possibly 4 mowers. If it was purchased in 58 then it may have been a 2a but no 2a came with tin wheels nor that engine serial. Now its a bitsa. Engine in the image is model 5 Special code, not 2a. The base is std 70s utility with embossed victa rise base and incorect axle mounts. Engine is late as well,70 series. So its a mix of 3 or more mowers. Base on the 2a probably rusted out and this was used. Also for 58 it would have been the last of the 2a run as the 3 was already well into its run. If the original engine still exists that would be a plus as would the cowl and pulley. Otherwise its just messed up mix. Correct 2a coded engine will be large stamped 100,000 to 110,000 only.

cheers come with the cowl and pully and 4 motors, non of them correct. good fun anyway. got a lot of good parts plus a sheerline 9 and a model 5 special. and 3 other 60's victa mowers all for 50.00. so its not all bad. I might make it into a retro mower one day.

thanks for your info

cheers

yes it was, its always a gamble, but that's life. I now have 15 mower in my to do next pile. and 1/2 a dozen I will move on one day so I cant complain that there nothing to do. I am trying to finish a victa 18 for my fathers birthday, just need a toe ring and I can add another completed mower to my list. cheers chris

Yeah its a 2a... Should have the large serial digits the same as the model 2 roto. Earliest one ive ever come across. Cowl and pulley are getting hard to come by and may at a min cost you 150 pulley and 180 cowl up to 200 and 300 approx,so be patient and wait for the cheapest you can get. Ive seen some go for less especially when a few come up at once....So keep your eyes open:) Unrestored completes are now selling for upwards of 700, so its a fair investment as they are nearly as rare as the model 1 due to its low volume (even less than that of the auto) although much cheaper in value. Good luck they are a prized model and very desirable:)

got a split pulley, that come with the mower. so that's no issue. thanks for the advice re the cowl, I will just keep an eye out for one.

and the serial number is very low, maybe first batch of production, very happy

cheers
