Hi SBM45,
I believe that your best bet to find a 20" Scotty would be through eBay or Gumtree. One of our members here scored 2 (1 a twin railer and the other a solid deck) both for $150.....They are rare, but there out there. wink
Good luck and good hunting,
cheers

Hi Darryl,

20" are pretty rare. 2x 20" for $150. Buy of the century!

If you had to choose between a solid deck 3 piece or a twin rail, which one of the two is better?

Hi Peter, I have owned my twin rail 17" Model 45 since new. If I knew then what I know now, I would have bought a solid deck Series 1 machine....but having said that, I wouldn't swap mine for anything as I know its entire history in my care. (I wish I knew the exact date of manufacture) wink
cheers2

Seek and you shall find. gumtree seems to be the easiest place to find them, but because of the rarity of the 20" you just need to be patient. I got lucky when I found my soild deck because the seller had used Scott Bonner in the title instead of Scott Bonnar. Luckily for me I found it and got it for a good price of $130.

Personally I prefer the look of the twin rail, however I agree that the soild decks are the more durable of the two, particularly with regard to chassis flex with the larger width machine.

Arm yourself with knowledge such that when a 20" comes up you can identify if it is the machine for you. Nothing wrong with having a small toolkit handy to open the chain case to inspect the chains and sprockets for wear as well as the reel and bedknife for damage.

Winter is a buyers market so happy hunting

Hi Peter,
Thanks for your kind comment, as I have said many times, a Scotty well maintained and serviced regularly, will last a lifetime. wink
Good hunting for your 20" Peter,
cheers

Not having too much luck at the moment Darryl. Does not help living on the eastern side of Australia too. A lot of Scott Bonnars for sale in perth.

Hi Peter,
Yes mate, WA seems to be the place where cylinder (reel) mowers reign supreme. wink
Just be patient, one will pop up....probably when you least expect it! lol

If its a wider cut you're after have you considered a 20" supercut or even a 24" model 65? Don't want rub it in but i just scored a series 1 45/20". It was $450 but needs no work done, ready to go.
