Hi guys, not sure if this is the right area but here are some before & after shots of my Victa Outboard. I kept all the original nuts & bolts the only part I replaced was the split pin in the prop & the air cleaner nob[Linked Image]

. I fired it up & ran it for about 5min.

Hi fuggins, and my congrats on a great restoration, the out board looks brilliant. grin
You will notice I have moved your post to 'Small Portable Machines' as, at present, we don't have a forum topic especially for outboards, but we may in the near future.

You may care to read bluegmhtmonaro's thread on his excellent Tiger marine outboard restoration in this forum topic HERE as I feel your machine may also have a Tiger engine and carby assy. wink
All good stuff!
cheers

Beautiful resoration Fuggins, love the green youve used. I have to agree with grumpy, the starter position would be 180 around for obvious reasons. Unless your Jesus and can walk on water then im sure youd find it hard to start when in a boat. The second reason was for safety, as the unwary/forgetful would have their feet in closer proximity to the prop when starting. With that said its your choice which way you want it, as I was going to reverse mine as its only display and I looks more familiar and not so out of place:) Anyways great work mate, Love it!
Just Remember to keep your piggies safe when starting! lols.

Sorry Mal, I'd deleted my post suggesting the starter should be rotated 180 degrees before your post appeared - obviously I wouldn't delete a post someone had replied to.

My reasons for suggesting the starter should face forward were as Mal said, plus my experience in the very early 1960s with a then brand new Waterboy outboard, generally similar to that Victa, which had the starter facing forward.

With the Waterboy at least, it was possible to turn the engine through 180 degrees - that was what it used as a reverse. However if you had a backwards facing starter and consequently started the motor in reverse every time, you would have no access to the throttle until you turned it around forward. There's no telling what the boat would have hit by then: there was no kill switch, you stopped the engine by closing the throttle.

Hi guys, my question is, what engine has it got, a Tiger or a Victa?
cheers

Its All good Grumpy, Im just stirring!:) And your spot on! I was more concerned with the safety aspect as I dont think the toe cutter ward is still operational lols.
Deejay,Ill leave for fuggins to confirm, but it seems you can just see the Victa 125 Stamping on the crankcase:)

Hi Deejay, grumpy & Bluegmhtmonaro, they are good points about turning the pull starter around didn't think of that, I have included a picture of the crankcase Victa 125. I don't know how to join a link but on YouTube search Victa outboard 1a as [Linked Image]
my son uploaded a video of its first start up

It didn't have an engine I have about 80% of an engine need a starter and cup, air filter, and flywheel. Could just pinch it off the toe cutter... Could you post some picture of the exhaust side of the motor? On my handle it appears there was some type of a grip?

Hi thedam, that looks exactly the same as I have, my grip had mostly fallen apart so I used a smooth bike grip. If you want any photos of anything from the outboard just let me know.[Linked Image]

Great restoration fuggins.

You've brought back some memories there thedam. 25-20 years ago, outboard trunks like the one you picture use to appear on the rear cover of magazines quite often.

I've been searching for one over 6 months now and have lucked out. If anyone knows where there might be one lurking, please don't hesitate to let me know. Restoring old outboards is my thing.

BTW, quite often the standard Victa carb was replaced with an AMAL (not sure exactly which model) that was more suitable for outboarding.

Yeah ive seen amal used on a few but I really see no difference. Amal is usually used more for higher cc anyways and they both seal well enough. Keep in mind most early victa outboards were mower to marine so they mostly used the Std carb....anyways I have a marine I may consider selling but ive already restored it so it may not suit...just needs a correct filter assy. Its in the forums somewhere..engines I think?
