Got this nice old Scott Bonnar 720 push mower at the tip ,needs a few parts so grabbed an old Rover for the few parts I need..seems to be a well made machine think I will just give it a good clean up/going over and put it back work as is....[Linked Image]

Nice mower under all the crap,it came up good with a bit of a clean up..Just have to give the briggs a going over , I dont think much is up with it as it has good spark id say fuel side of things is all......And yeah think it could do with a new air filter as the one that came with it looks original to me Ive never seen one like it before looks old lol.... Thanks Deejay its a well made mower thats for sure 1st one Ive had and its in good nick for age....Ive not got stuck into the briggs yet to see if it runs ,only thing I don't like the look of is the muffler as it looks like it has been running very hot! for it to get that hot it could have been running very lean? engine could be toast yet will know more when I troubleshoot the engine (fingers crossed)....Cheers Chris

Hey Chris, I like that model too. I have done a few of these over the last couple of years since I started. I have come to believe that the 720 was like the "flagship model". I also got the impression that they came out with the 4hp briggs not the 3.5hp that is on yours. I have seen all the 520's with that engine. I may be wrong but most of the ones I have touched have had the big engine. But Mate! if we could categorize them as the military article I think they may be in the Armored Division. Sold as a rock. Maybe harder. regards.

Hi Chris,
Well done mate, very nice find! I've been looking for this exact model to compliment my model 45's. Very jealous! smile

Christo - As I understand, there were two engine offerings for the model 720. Model 720104 is the 3.5hp version and 720260 is the 5hp version. I believe the 520 had a 4hp option.

Lol! I wonder if this one is the original engine anyway, 17th August 1988 seems too new for a Scott Bonnar.

Yes I think your sort of right there Rolla I don't think it is the original engine due to the date but the horsepower (More the colour I thought they were all the red engines)for these models. That is right size engine as it is the 720104 which did come out with a Briggs 3.5HP. The 720155 had a 4HP and the one your thinking of was the 720260 which had the 5HP Briggs, but it was the larger engine type of 5HP.
Here is a clip from a sales brochure I found.
Yours is the model on the left hand side.

Here is some pictures of a 520 and 720 I had.
520 on the left 720 on the right.

520 also with 3.5HP Briggs

Now I'm not 100% sure but the 520 took over from the 720 however I'm fairly sure they did run side by side for a few years first.Maybe somebody out there has some other paper work to support my theory.

Here for a good time, not a long time.
