Hi i have this mower and it doesnt start, there is no compression, pulling the cord its too easy but dont hear any air leaks. Removing spark plug piston is still connected to con rod.
I can turn cutting disk easily on all pitson cycles with spark plug tight ion place with my little finger.

need manual for rover B&S 4hp 4 stroke mower

dristo72,

It sounds like the valves are not seating correctly. bigshock

The steps that I would take first are: woot

  • 1. Remove the muffler
    2. Remove the valve cover (two screws)
    3. Check to see if you have valve clearance.
    4. Remove cylinder head.
    5. Remove valves.
    6. Check valve seats.
    7. Reface valves & Seats.
    8. Reassemble & reset valve clearance.

Check this first and let me know what you find. yay

The workshop manual is quite large for the Briggs & Stratton motors and it will take some time before I can upload it to the board. sleep

If you have a look at posts you will find a link to parts manuals that I have put up on oner of the recent posts. That will give you some idea of assembly etc. cheers2

i agree with bruce on this it sounds like a valve not seating correctly the sign of ring trouble is oil on top of piston if no oil is on top of the piston then the compression problem is on the valves in case it is valves your local auto parts place should have valve lapping compound and a valve grinding device they may need to be resurfaced into the seat just a little air leak around them valves will cause problems .
hope this helps you
