My latest project is a Flymo rear catcher mower with a Tecumseh 3.5hp 2 stroke engine. The previous owner tried to remove the fuel bowl nut the normal way, not realising it was a left hand thread (the label on the bowl was facing the engine so he didn't see it). I probably won't have too much trouble getting the broken piece out BUT do you think I will have difficulty finding another carby bowl nut to replace it seeing as it's a left hand thread, rest of mower is in really good condition. Any help appreciated. Cheers all.

Have downloaded Firefox now, worked out the uploading for photos, thanks guys! One more question: The Tecumseh 2 stroke I mentioned is actually a 4.5hp 2 stroke. Model XLPRO5. I have sent an email to a distributor in the US that specialises in Tecumseh parts. As I mentioned earlier I am chasing the brass nut that holds the fuel bowl on the carby (left hand thread) and i've also noticed that due to the fact that the guy had the bowl off that the fuel shut off needle has disappeared, I have a carby off of another Tecumseh 2 stroke albeit a different style but I think the needle should be the same. Anybody know of anyone here in Oz that supplies the now defunct Tecumseh bits? Exploring all and any options so any and all advice on this sincerely appreciated. smirk

A couple of pics of the 4.5hp 2 stroke Tecumseh. I bought a carby kit and a new bowl nut from the US "Jacks Small Engines". Total cost $46AU. $36 of that was postage, so the parts were pretty reasonable.

I have only every seen one other flymo 2 stroke. Quite rare over here I imagine, hard to get bits.
Thanks for the images.

As mentioned previously I needed some carby parts for this engine. I received the parts from the US (namely, needle, seat and needle attaching clip, bowl 'O' ring seal, bowl nut and bowl nut fibre washer. I fitted the needle and seat and when blowing through fuel line and turning carb upside down to allow float to activate the needle seals fine, but when fitting to engine and running fuel through it floods out through the air box side of the carburettor. However there is a small odd shaped spring that came with the box of parts from the previous owner and it obviously goes over the shaft that holds the float to the carburettor base, which has probably got something to do with the fuel shut off at the needle. Being a bit of a novice I am uncertain as to how this spring fits. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I've had a look at a parts diagram from the US dealers website but it doesn't show much detail. [Linked Image]

Got on to the online store as recommended as got the exploded diagram as to where and how this spring goes. Still having issues:

New needle and seat fitted, and yes, seat is fitted the correct way up, new carby bowl nut, fibre washer and 'O' ring for bowl fitted, carby is perfectly clean and all fuel related holes are clear and free, there are no holes in the float, and I have adjusted the float to sit at slightly different levels to no avail.

The issue is that when you blow air through the fuel line via your mouth the needle and seat shuts off as it should even when just gravity assisted. When you attach the fuel tank via fuel line to the carby and hold the tank above carby (trials before installing back on to mower)the fuel actually continuously bubbles out of the centre brass tube that runs vertical in line with the bowl nut and runs out of the air intake side of the carby hence flooding continuously. Does anyone know what I have missed. As per the diagram I got from the Outdoorking store online all parts are present and correct. WTF

Gday MickyD, I will pull one apart tmrw and have a look at it . Not sure if it is the same as yours . Sounds like the needle isn'tshutting off . Have a really good look at your seat , I know you said you have cleaned it . Shine a torch in it and really look at it . It would be good if you can put photos as you go, so be patient you will get there. Cheers.
