Just wondering if anyone has info on the Briggs vertical 5hp white engine ?

I was talking to a fellow who was selling one and he mentioned they are a long stroke motor suited to high torque applications and they were sought after. Any truth to these claims or simply a sellers spiel?

Hi aldot, the colour of Briggs engines does not give us the model. You might be talking about a suction fuel feed 130902, like in this Operator's Manual:

Or you might be talking about a gravity fuel feed 130702, like in this one:

If you can clear that up, I still will need to refer you to Joe Carroll for extensive hands-on experience with the model, but at least he'll be talking about the right engine. All I can say is that there is a vertical 5 hp, often white, which I seem to recall some of the members being quite fond of, but I think you probably want something more specific than that.

Thanks Grumpy. I will try and get some more details on the engine.

Didn't make it in time. The unit sold.

I'm told there are as big fish in the sea as have ever been caught, Aldo. You seem to me to have an excellent record of getting decent machines, and not buying things then having to scrap them. Your approach works.
