Hi All,

i have an old Victa Cortina 125 which i restored a few years ago. it is attached to a Mitre Master base which was gold in color when i got it (buried under a tree!)

just chasing some info in it anyway, whether the colours are right and an approx date of manufacture.
i'll upload some photos tomorrow when i can go and take some in the daylight.

Cheers,
Tyler.

Hi Skiller and :welcome: to our happy home.
Please add the engine number as well as it may well help to identify what year it was made.

To get the most help from your photo's, one of the full mower, inc handle bars, and a close up front, left and right of the engine will do great, along with, as blumbly said, the serial number, located on the carby side of the crank case will help too.

Cheers
Ty

That would be a 1969 Model 559 Stencil Deluxe 2, With Series 70 MKI Engine, the starter has been changed, it should have a non-shrouded impulse type starter, the handle bar knobs are also much newer, as this model would have had the older hollow types, and the rear wheels are incorrect, aside form that it looks correct.

Series 70 MKI model 3680 Engine, G3 Carby, No Decompressor, 125cc, rocket muffler, all sitting on the model 559 chassis.

Although your very close their Ty and I do believe it was based off that model. However I do feel that that particular model is a store branded one. Defiantly not a Cortina that dress cowl and starter have been changed. As well as the other bits you mentioned.

Well there you go, Blumbly, Your not wrong at all!

The 'Cortina' branding was used on some store brands, and when it was it was often stylised like that (you will note that the "125 Cortina" does not match the Victa Cortina's style) which had me thinking it was original, but indeed, it is not original to this mower.

First, the 160 was still fresh in 1969, and not something just handed out on any old store brand, so 125 was not really specified, secondly, that cowl has casting to allow for a decompression valve, however, decompression was not till 1971, and that cylinder head is definitely pre decompression 125 head.

And on top of that, research shows this for 1969:

I know I'm not wrong I hardly ever are wrong. He he he. My wife might disagree there but she'd would be wrong too. Awesome newspaper picture though. It does show how it would have looked. I think we have identified this little mystery.

I hope this Helps skiller, what are your plans for this machine, are you hoping to take it back to the original spec, or keep it as is?

If you would like help ID'ing the necessary parts for restoration to factory spec, I'll get a list together for you, if you happen to have a photo of the top of the handle bars, and the underside of the mower, that would be great help, if this is the way you want to go.

Cheers
Ty
