Just purchased myself a E2000 22/34 mk3 greenfield

Whilst repairing cutter deck bearing I noticed this

[Linked Image]

Ah rust, looks like it had a battery issue somewhere in its life and that acid just ate that section of the mower. No wonder it was cheap hehe.

Here is how it looked stripped down

Several hours later

Had to fit new cutter deck bearing housing someone had let the old one get chewed up and now the whole base plate could rock enough to let the blades hit the deck even though the bearings in there were ok.

Nice work, especially the welding, which seems to be MIG. Are you going to dress the welds before you put the battery in, or use a soft acid-resistant mat over them? Otherwise you'll crack the battery case.

Which was the first model to have the short clutch shaft? Obviously the change was earlier than E2000 Mk3.

And I see there seems to have been a design change in the cutter deck bearing housing that happened later than the E2000 Mk3. The new one you've used is gusseted, making it stronger, but it looks as if it is smaller in diameter, or is that just an optical illusion?

Thanks grumpy, yes they are mig welds. what I am intending to do with the welds is grind them back to level just in the areas where the battery sits. In preparation for doing that I made sure that at all the joins in that area I grinded large chamfers so that weld is not just on top it fills a full thickness V. I will black jack everything an refit small rubber mat that goes under the battery.

Don't quote me on this but I am pretty certain the MK1 evo was the first short shaft. I think you'll find the unsupported bearing housing is longer on the under deck side. I don't know the model it was fitted to but I did see it next to this style when I purchased it. Not sure about diameter, I think maybe the diameter is the same.

Oh I just realised, what you are seeing in the picture is the same style bearing housing upside down. Also why it appears bigger because that is the side that is chewed out to a larger diameter letting the base plate move.

The folder you used to make that floor-and-vertical piece with the slot in it, must be a fair length. I think it would be too long for the baby one which is all I have. And the slot looks suspiciously neat - did you end-mill it?

It's starting to look as if you have good facilities there.

I don't own the folder that did that bend, my brother in law used to work at a place where he had access to an industrial panbrake (also how the ramps its sitting on were bent). That section is actually an off cut from a bench top we folded up quite some time ago. That is why the repair section is made in two pieces, the off cut wasn't big enough to fill it on the top side but had the perfect bend.

The slot is done with the drill two holes and connect the dots method, I do have some tools but nothing quite as elaborate as a mill.

I too am an enthusiast for keeping offcuts and finding uses for them. Here is a little gadget I made out of one last week:
[Linked Image]

I didn't fold up the offcut, I bought it in a load of scrap and just cut a couple of centimetres off across it for this job (a speed control for bench testing the small Honda GXV engines). I did end mill the slot though, mostly for fun. It would have been quicker to connect the dots probably.

Nice one, you just never now what those odds and ends could be perfect for later on.

Great, now all you need to worry about are the steering, stub axles, possibly the rear hubs, and so forth. It's going to work out though, and it's a good-looking machine. Well done.
