Thanks to vccomm notifying of an add on gumtree about a Scott Bonnar 35 with catcher.As I wasn't on-line at that point and only new to the iPhone I now have.It took me a couple of days to find the add.So when I rang the seller he told me it had been sold.So I asked 'Sold as in sold and gone or sold as in still there and going to be picked up?' He said 'It's still here.'So that was when I said,'OK I'll double the offer.'He then told me that due to the first person who was going to take so long in picking it up,(about a week).

That the offer was at $50.So I said,'OK then $100 it is.'During that conversion he told me that it was for a friend of Chris's.I suddenly thought oh dear,but at that time he was adamant that the first offer was the one that he was going to take.I said 'OK then that's OK.If you change your mind you now have my number you can ring on.'I then rang Chris (dristo72) and had a talk to him about it.He was happy about it.I also asked him if I could take photos and measurements of the catcher as for the purpose of re-manufacturing a catcher.I thought oh well my lose,but at least I could make a copy of the catcher.However almost a week later with no contact from seller Chris sent me a message saying they were not getting it and he was taking a higher offer.I thought to myself well that's not me I haven't herd a thing.I rang him and had a talk to him.He was understandably upset that the seller had had changed his mind and not gone through with it.That was on a Thursday.

The following Monday I got a phone call asking when I was picking it up.Now I have managed to upset a good friend of mine here in Brisbane (which was the last thing I ever wanted to do).Now at the time of telling the seller I would double the offer I didn't know that Chris was getting it for somebody he knew,who wanted it.You know it has made me feel bad even though when the offer was made I had no idea whom it was who was after it.It's strange as I should be happy but at the same time sad that it upset a good friend.So Chris (dristo72) if and when you read this,Sorry man it was not my intention to do it this way.In-fact if the seller didn't mention your name I would have never even known it was you.I just hope that your not upset with me,I had no idea.

The catcher hinge is broken off.Although it just appears that the rivets have let go.It is held on with a piano hinge.Not sure if that is savable as it is frozen stiff.



The muffler is buggered as someone has tried to re-weld it and just made a huge mess of it.Bugger.

Look the Scott Bonner decal is still there.[Censored].

So naturally I couldn't wait to get stared.First I found the engine rock solid. Couldn't turn it over at all.[Censored] [Censored] [Censored].

So the search for answers began.

[Censored] found out why she wouldn't turn over.Bugger.


Just a little bit of water.

You will note that although there is a hole there for the magister it doesn't look as though anything was ever in there.

I guess this would be why.A bigger coil.

As you can see the piston and crank are not looking to good,but I do believe they are still savable. Well I hope anyway.
I have managed to find another the same as this and hopefully it will be coming soon.So I'm sure between the two I can make at least one good engine.



Fingers crossed.That is as far as I got on the weekend.Will keep you all updated as it continues,this weekend.

OK Restoration has now begun for this old girl.Really not sure if the engine is savable,but I have located yet another 35 and it's engine does turn over.So that should be a good enough sign for a fixing engine.Here is some pictures of some of the things I have done so far.


Carby and throttle control.Came up better than I thought it would.The flash kept on buggering up the photo.If anyone wants to see better let me know.I'll take pictures during the day and not night time.


This is the height adjuster.Again the pictures didn't show how good it really is.I will take pictures during the day for this as it really looks better than it does here.

Hi Jeffrey, those parts have come up a treat....good work mate....Correct me if I'm wrong, but your first 35 (Magister) has an engine that will be a runner or just for display?

The first 35 will be a running engine as it only had a siezed bottom bearing. An easy fix,it had a good piston and bore only needing a good hone. Also due to some excellent work (by yourself) a magister was scored and Ty found an nos ignition. So I can't wait to get this one up and running.

I know what you mean this one is aspecial exciting as it has and is taking the combined effort of 4 of our outdoorking members. So it will be great to finnsh this one.

Haven't progressed any further as yet still trying to get the two VC-125's done. Then back to these 2 two. Unfortunatly I have a few sellable mowers I have to get done first.

Me Too! Miine still isnt finished I keep jumping from job to job and this one keeps getting away. Maybee we will have them finished about the same time Blumby....Then it Will make for an awesome Display!

Well I can tell you Ty nothing has happened as yet. They have just been pulled apart and packed away for now. I did purchase another from a guy in Melbourne (about 12 months ago) I'm still waiting for him to pack it into a box so I can get it up here. I need that one for parts. Not sure I'll ever see that one even though I have paid for it.

Hi Jeffrey, that is sad news....Just keep on his back and get him to send it to you....you will need it to complete your resto's....I can't wait to see your 35 Magister running!

Yes well it is painful I don't know anybody on that side of Melbourne otherwise I could get someone to pick up. I mean how hard is it to box it up. I need most of that ones engine and the wheels of it. So now that VC's are just about done I'm going to need that one as the 35's are next inline. Already have the paint mixed up and ready to go.

Hi Jeffrey, I needed recently to get some stuff from my Dads in Brisvegas down to Wagga....I used a company called Pack and Send.....Click HERE They were fantastic and got everything here without breakage and priced reasonably as well....This would take the worry out of the move...and they will pack it up for you in Melbourne and deliver it to your door in Brizzy.

What suburb of Melbourne, if he wont send, I might know someone who can pick up, pack and send!

Oh so they pack as well? Bugger I just watched on eBay some mowers I wanted but couldn't get to them. I think I need to have a talk to these people.

Can't quite remember Ty,exactly where it was in the south east part. I will find out and let you know.

Ok thanks Ty I'll give him a call some time this week. Even if I can just get it over to Bob's as he said his more than happy to help. After all this has been going on about 12 months now,and I really need it here. As I need a lot of the parts off it to complete my two here.
