Sorry Grump, just thought of another quick question, we would like to take the blades out to have sharpened, can we do this after we have re-mounted the engine back on, or should we pull it out now, get sharpened, re-fit and then do the re-mount ?
Sorry might sound like a silly question

It isn't a silly question, Angela. To remove the reel and bedknife (you normally have them sharpened together) you will have to remove the chain that drives the reel. It is inside the cover on the left side of the mower, if you are facing forward. The engine does not affect doing this, so it does not really matter whether it is on the mower at the time or not. You remove the chain by finding its joining link and removing it. It is the same as a bicycle chain.

Our resident expert on the frames, clutches and cutting systems of reel-type mowers is Deejay. He can help you with specifics of how to go about the sharpening, adjusting etc. Please do not sharpen the blade and then reinstall it without getting advice from Deejay, your local reel sharpening technician, or both - otherwise you may undo all the good work done by the sharpening.

Hi Angela, if you wish to remove the cylinder reel, I will need you to post pics of the chain case with the cover removed....plus a close-up of the sprocket that attaches to the reel. wink
Your machine utilizes a Ransomes cutting unit which can be removed all in one piece from memory. You will then have to take the unit to an engineer/machinist for the spin-grind.
The easiest way to find an engineer in your area is to talk to the greenskeeper at your local Bowling Club and ask where they get their reels done.
