thats defiantly a cox mobile mow but they had the friction drive system not a single speed forward and reverse gear box. the gear box is out of either a victa/mtd 5-26 06 a rover colt. have you known it to be modified? looks good tho! maybe some footrests to save kiddys feet? regards jay

Sorry for the late reply, your reply slipped past me. The easiest way to identify the year of the engine is to read the first 2 digits of the 'code' printed on the cowling. For example if the code were 890130 then the engine would have been made on the 30th of February 1989. as to the drive system Cox never produced a mower with that type of drive set up. The mobile mow had 2 large discs mounted on a horizontal shaft and a cone mounted on a vertical shaft in between the two discs. When the cone was pressed up against one of the discs it would spin it to move the mower forward. When the cone moved over it would contact the other disc and therefore propel the mower backwards. i made a video explaining it on YouTube. I will find the link for you later. so basically what im suggesting is that either this mower has been modified or it isnοΏ½t a Cox, rather a rip off which seems more plausible because it looks nothing like any Cox ive ever seen(ignore the bit in the last post where i say it is). Regards jay

30th of February Jay? That doesn't come around very often. There are eight digits in the code. The first two digits are the year, the second two are the month, the third two are the day of the month, as you said, and the last two digits are the manufacturing plant. A code of 890130xx would be 30 January 1989.

hahaha after i posted it occurred to me that February is one of the ones with 28 days but hoped no one picked up on it. i was unsure of how many digits it had off head and wasn't going all the way outside to check.
