Hello Bruce,

Excellent 22 year old machine, except pull start cord does not retract. How do I remove the clutch boss so that I can remove the fan/flywheel cover to rewind or replace the recoil spring?

ErlieByrd (post 10.5.2000, Two Stroke Trimmers & Brushcutters) seems to have had the exact same problem with a Mac 25. Can you assist me also with this, please?

I still have my MAC25 in the hope that the starter rope recoil spring problem can be fixed. Your assistance would be very much appreciated.

I have sent you a parts list on the brushcutter. This might be of some help.

As to the removal of the starter, just follow these steps:

1. Remove the four screws wher the shaft housing is mounted to the engine and then remove the shaft.

2. Remove the spark plug and place a length of starter cord in the cylinder towards the exhaust port(muffler).

3. Then undo the clutch and remove the starter housing.

Thank you very much for the parts lists and diagrams and for your easy to follow starter removal steps which I have today followed with success.

I found that the nylon starter spring holder had been fitted upside down when last serviced, thereby allowing the spring to escape and unwind and damage the holder.

I have re-fitted the spring and holder correctly and my trusty MAC25 brushcutter is now running again.
