Hi all, Our son has a Ryobi PLT3043YW 30cc line trimmer, which I think he bought from Bunnings. It starts and runs ok but it doesn't seem to have any power at the cutting head. Whenever he tries to cut grass the head stops turning. He's asked me to look at it for him but I can't find any obvious reason. The first thing I checked was the shaft but it seems solid, also checked that the head turns freely and that also looks good. Can anyone help with possible causes for this problem? Cheers Bob W

Hi There Bob, If the shaft isn't broken then my guess would be it's the centrifugal clutch, most likely slipping under load.

Thanks bigted, I'm guessing the clutch is at the engine but have no idea where to find it. Is it an adjustable clutch or is slipping a sign of wear or damage? I've never come across this problem before. Cheers Bob W

Hi Bob, I have struck this before where the shaft at the motor end comes out due to vibrating loose overtime . All I have done for this is loosen the screws a little so as you can push the pipe back into the motor a little and then tighten back up or it could be that the shaft at the clutch end could be rounded. Cheers.
