Which is prefered engine for the Scott Bonnar Mower? And why were there the 2 options? Was one cheaper when they were originally sold?

The earlier ones used kirby/tecumseh motors, the later ones had briggs motors, if your kirby doesnt have a lot wrong with it I would stick with that as generally the briggs has a smaller output shaft on the crank which would mean buying a new clutch half for the mower, which is quite expensive.

Hi Alan, Joe is correct there mate, SB had struck a deal with Kirby-Lauson (which was a Tecumseh design made in Australia under licence) and used them until SB decided to use Briggs and Stratton exclusively on the entire range of products (except the electrics of course and some of the professional range)
Rover-Scott Bonnar and finally Rover Australia continued this policy until Rover closed down in Brisbane a few years ago. wink
