Hello,
I am new the forum and hope this is the right place to post questions.
I have done a fair amount of work on Victa Two Strokes and have a small question.
When replacing the top starter seal I have noticed the conrods have slight movement in the them. This slight movement is evident in the top and bottom ends of the conrod. Note I thoroughly test these mowers and they all work really well. Usually all start first pull after a good once over.

Most of the mowers I get going again are older power torques and some are full cranks (VC160's).

I have already had the pleasure of meeting Mr Davis (Ty) by chance via ebay and wanted to say that is great to spend time with an expert!

G'dat Peter ,I would not worry they all seem to have a lttle play in the conrods..I myself have never seen a conrod let go in a Victa..the only thing to keep an eye on Id say are the big end bearing's for wear as this will cause air leaks and alot of head scratching haha....To me the power torque's have a well made conrod....[Linked Image]

Thanks Chris. I just thought it best to check. They do seem like pretty strong engines.

On a seperate note I dont suppose anyone would know how to get a blade guard for a full crank utility mower that I found at the recycle place. I only spent a couple of bucks on it and it runs like a dream however I dont want to sell it without the blade guard as its a little dangerous for the un-initiated. A second hand one will be more than fine.

I have found most have slop in the big end bearing, I have seen one let go but that was from a lot of abuse.

When the main bearing gets wear you will have sealing problems, as it will chew out the seal quickly.

You can fairly easily make a grass chute for the powertorque utilitys from a hinge, some c perlon (cant remember the size) and a few rivets. I saw photos of a similar home made job on here but it may take a while to find the thread.

I made that up.

I doubt I could find the thread either.

I think it was 5 inch perlin.
If youve got a mangled one to go off you will be able to see how you could make it up out of that.

Trivial fact.
Cant get the rold bolt undone on a victa. Put the piston at BDC and smack the rod with a hammer. It will snap like spagetti.
Find another crank, find another rod, find another crankpin, reuse the piston & block.

Cheers, bob.

Uploader doesnt like the other two pics of what I made no on the mower. Rings a bell, I might have put them up on image shack. Off to bed now, will look into it.

Couldnt help myself.

Its probably worth the spend on a stainless hinge.
Use steel or stainless rivets, definately not aluminium.

Also in the pic is a fix for a cracked height control bracket. Weld it to a handle brace plate of a regular steel base victa.

Cheers.

Thanks Bob, That is exactly the same mower in roughly about the same condition. I found it at the dump. Some really smart bloke forget to put a needle in the carby. I wacked one in and away it went. I want to sell it and a guard like the one you made should make it perfect!
