My little old Stihl 010AV tends to die if I reach up to a branch, even just holding the saw vertical. I'm hoping it will be a routine issue to some of you blokes. It sounds like a carby issue generally to me. Maybe pumping, or metering? Looking forward to some help.

Hi Ron, I'm just wondering if the fuel line may be the culprit. If it is old and perished then perhaps when it swings around via the weighted fuel filter it opens a split in the line causing it to suck air.

Hi aldot. Great thought. I'll check that out today.

Aldot,
I hooked the filter and tube out. Couldn't see any damage without dismantling; I also blew into the tube and it didn't appear to leak. Thinking it over, would you expect the saw to show signs of recovery after sucking air and being short of fuel momentarily? Mine is OK again as soon as I drop it down to horizontal.
I wondered about this tube I saw when I was checking out the pick up line. Is that a breather, and wouldn't it be submerged when I tilt the saw?
