Hi guys this is how I give a mower base a new paint job...well its how I do it at home out of the can and not out of a gun, I also use a gun but i like cans less mess to clean up lol...,It works good for me hope it helps someone out in getting a good paint job.....I start by giving the base a good clean and a hit with degreaser...

lol I dont get it what do you mean? you only get out of a paint job what you put in...To get a good paint job it takes what it takes..... If one wash is good for you than thats cool..If you dont want any paint reactions give it a few 3 tops lol works for me...Cheers Chris

Yes that maybe so,but with the right products you only need one clean. As that is what I do,haven't had a blow up yet. Just so you know you can upload a maxium of 10 photos per post. Just save you time on doing multiple posts.

that cheapo 3 in one cleaner/degreaser i found takes a lot of old paint with it too ! so dont use it on a good machine , takes off the shine and MAN it takes some polishing !! banghead learned the hard way , so i wont forget

Yes true there are many ways to paint, painting is not my day job lol...This is just one way to do it and cutting many corners at that but works great for me in getting a nice paint job on a mower base....Ive not had to sand down runs or paint reactions doing it this way, but like you say its not for everybody but may help a few and thats why i put this up..If you have a better way please post it up, I for one am open to better ways of doing things thats what this is all about sharing knowledge and what workes best through trial and error..Cheers Chris

I just think you we're cleaning touch as I do it once, mind you I do a big clean. You really don't need to sand if you use a wire bush,as you were saying just have to make sure you don't go to fast. Also never used a heater to hart the job,[Censored] well should have when in Canberra. I only painted in the warmer months down there. I guess that's what happens when your in a hole. You are right should not paint on a wet day or with high humidity. The moisture in the air can affect the paint. I have seen what it does, and it stuffs the whole job. Also the preparation depends on whether you are painting with hammer-tone as it will find a lot of imperfections as it is thicker. If doing it in enamel (or 2 pack) the perpetration is more detailed. Yes I have worked in the panel beating spraying for about 15 years after I left school. I also don't use spray cans as when they are mixed the are mixed at 80% thinners and 20% paint. I get the feeling that your getting upset by some of your comments I'm just trying to show you an easier way. That cleaning 2 or 3 times really is a bit much. If you are unsure of with it is clean enough spray some primer on that will soon show if it needs cleaning.

Hi Chris, and thanks for contributing your methods for painting bases. I agree with you, preparation of the substrate (ie. the article or surface being painted) is most important in achieving a great result.
How you achieve that, I believe is a matter of personal preference, as you have said. Whatever works for you.
Your gold base looks awesome! good1
cheers2
