Picked these two up from the scrap yard today.
Pure chance.

My car broke down yesterday. Blocked fuel filter, on the freeway no less. Got it off the road and cleared it. Needed to go to the supermarket and grab a few things, dropped into the scrap yard to wash my hands and spied the slasher. Motor turns over, deck is trashed. Put down a tenner to hang onto it for me overnight.
Loaded up a bit of random ally and electric motors that i had here.
The GMC was there this morning.
Paid my extra $40 for the slasher, $20 for the GMC and walked out with cash in my pocket.

It is a shame when you see the deck busted out on those greenfield slashers.

Should be a good little engine on the GMC. I am not sure about those flywheel brake set ups. (I understand the safety side).
Have you ever seen one of those with a sheared flywheel key, due to someone dumping the brake, stopping the engine suddenly.

No ive never seen a keyway broken that way. they might tell you thats whats happened but 99% of the time its a blade hit that does it.

But with one of those GMCs its more likely that the boss will explode. Alloy crap.

It was a good buy that GMC. The lady at the scrap yard said 30. I threw it on the scales and it was 25kg so I said 25 (thats the price they ask for alloy base mowers), she was sticking to the 30 as it was out special near the gate, so i tugged on the rope a bit and told her its seized, its just for bits. (it felt like soemthing else was wrong with it so i was willing to take a punt) Then when i went in and she paid me for the bit of stuff id bought in she said she only took 20 off for it.

Got it running.
Pulled the lid off and the pull starter is on the cowl with some tek screws. They were poling down between the pins.
Id say whats happend was that the pull cord broke and the guy drilled the rivets off to get the cord back out then put it back on with screws and gave up.
Put some new rivets in, cleaned some gunk and a bit of water out of the fuel tank. Put fresh fuel in and it fired on the first pull. And smoked like ten men untill all the oil burnt out of the muffler.

The Height lever is not touching the base. Just need to fix that. See if i have a spare catcher for it.

Ive got an 11xl here to wreck. So I could use the deck off that even though i was going to use it for something else.
Ive also got my eye on an 8xl.

If I cant find a deck I will just trim the alloy back and make up a new outer rin in steel and bolt that on under the alloy. Well thats provieded the spindle and all that is OK. Havent looked yet.

I had a very similar slasher here, I think it was branded a shiremaster, it had a nifty little ride on seat that trailed behind it, powered with a honda 11hp, it took some getting used to to drive with the seat but it was very popular and got snapped up within days, I never even got a photo of it.

When I first started fixing up mowers and saw all the smoke. I would put them aside as a right off, until I eventually realised they had been tipped over.

Joe, did your slasher have a seat something like this? It would have to be fun to use.

The shire master was a masport made thing I think.

I had a guy turn up here one day, wanted me to fix his mower. I pulled the filter off and put the screw back in. Started it, pushed up the path so it was out of the gateway and left it smoking its head off and went back to my washing mowers. Every now and again I would peek around at it and heres the guy on the other side of the gate giving me weird looks. lol

People are idiots. Ove $100 each for rover rangers on eBay and the guy had no description and pictures smaller than the thumbs you get in the search lists. He had a Greenfield 8XL but just it wouldnt have been worth the trip up bush and I asked about the deck and it had a chunk out of it.
Probably just make a deck up in steel. Trim the alloy back and bolt it on the top.

GMC is all done.
Had another base in the stack, think I got it off eBay for $12 or something with no handles or motor. So I swapped the handles and motor over, oh and one rear hubcap. Easier than trying to fix the height control lever.

Im such a scumarse, I just shortened up the broken starter cord. lol.

Blade is even good on it.

Grabbed a catcher out of the stack.
Have another here the same, with bad paint, its got a 5hp on it and i think its SP. Also a 'gardenline' SP, its the same pretty much but the catcher is a little different, it had a dead Tecumseh on it and the paint was real bad flaking off.
